    Introducing Chicks

I know this is a common question, but I have 7 week old chicks that have been in an enclosed run with a screen between them and my older flock. I’m introducing them outside while they “free range” and I can supervise them. My only concern is, I have two barred rocks that are mean to them and...

    EE Genetics

Hey y’all! I’m very interested to hear what y’all might think my EEs are products of! Some of my hens are pretty clearly a crossing of a silver laced Wyandotte but others I have NO idea haha Photos included! :) Also, the youngest are 6 weeks so I understand if they are too young to determine...

Treating a 5-wk chick for Coccidiosis

Glad to say this is the last update on Fran, she is completely back to normal! I’m so thankful for everyone’s help on here!!!

Treating a 5-wk chick for Coccidiosis

My only question is, how much miconazole should I give her? The post about treating sour crop in hens says 1/4 of an inch or 1/2 inch of the paste, but do I need to scale that down for her since she's only 5 weeks?

Treating a 5-wk chick for Coccidiosis

I’m so happy! Not getting my hopes up completely but Fran is moving and acting like a normal chick! Still weak, couldn’t fly around much but she is flapping her wings and chirping with the others! Went straight to eating and drinking! Her crop wasn’t squishy this morning, not super big but it...

Treating a 5-wk chick for Coccidiosis

She is drinking on her own surprisingly. But if another chick walks by her and bumps into her Fran just stumbles and lays down poor thing is so weak

Treating a 5-wk chick for Coccidiosis

Fran was very very weak this morning, she couldn’t jump out of the box they sleep in. I picked her up and put her down and she stood there really confused looking for a bit and then made her way to the feeder and I did watch her actually eat on her own again! By now, should she be showing more...

Treating a 5-wk chick for Coccidiosis

Okay thanks so much!!! Is it safe to treat her for both at the same time? There’s nothing wrong with giving her other medicines in addition to Corid? Yes, I give them chick grit (crushed granite) with their eggs and or yogurt mash.

Treating a 5-wk chick for Coccidiosis

I hope so!! Thanks so much for being so kind and checking in on them! I’ve been so lucky to never deal with this in my previous chickens but I really appreciate all the advice and knowledge shared!! Here’s the videos of her today!

Treating a 5-wk chick for Coccidiosis

They are doing alright. I did another corid drench as advised. I’ve checked on them about every hour and it fluctuates from them laying in a corner (and frankly giving me a scare!) and then they’ll be at the feeder and they are eating. Fran is so incredibly weak though she looks miserable poor...

Treating a 5-wk chick for Coccidiosis

UPDATE: So actually when I just came back out here, Fran’s crop is not enlarged but it is just squishy in general. No sour smell or anything coming from her beak. Now, it was enlarged yesterday and squishy but since I couldn’t monitor her all day long she might have just been eating and it might...

Treating a 5-wk chick for Coccidiosis

So far so good I think! She was the first one up this morning and went straight to the feeder and water and drank a good bit. As you can see in the thread, she might have sour crop 😣 but otherwise she seems okay! My other chick, Roz, is now moving slow as well and has watery and small poos 😞...

Treating a 5-wk chick for Coccidiosis

Okay! So I only drenched them all Thursday when I first found the blood. I will do it again today. And that is the only water source they have is the corid water. She just ate some yogurt and egg yolk with the food crumbles on top this morning! She ate all on her own I was so proud! Her crop...
