I managed to get an OK photo of the black cockerel's front - definitely some white going on, and he's getting some green iridescent patches on his wings.
We got a 15 bird "All Heavies" mix and a 15 bird hatchery special, so could be anything.
The black one is definitely a weirdo! I'm almost wondering if it's an ancona that doesn't have much mottling yet. I'll try for some better photos. The bachelor run makes it tough to get good pics.
Wild on the Fayoumi! I had thought that initially and then second guessed myself. The assortment really is a grab bag!
Thanks!
Huh! Now that I go specifically read the description for the blue cochins, it absolutely says that about the 50% blue vs the others. Chicken genetics are fascinating!
Dang, let's try that again! I must have navigated away before everything uploaded.
Murray only lists Buff, White, Silver Laced, Black, Blue, and Partridge cochins in their breed list - no Splash to be seen.
Back again with more birds from our Murray McMurray hatchery assortments!
I've numbered the photos, and will be listing my guesses or questions for each one.
1) White (?) cochin - leaning towards pullet
2) Dark Brahma? Thought initially roo since I assumed it came in the All Heavy mix, but...
We're having the most fun identifying our assortment from Murray McMurray. I have this particular chick tentatively pegged as a white jersey giant thanks to those legs and its size. It's as big or bigger at 8 weeks than the Bielefelders we also got in the mystery box.
I'm also leaning towards...
We got two hatchery assortments from Murray McMurray this year - 15 "All Heavies Male" to try several breeds for meat birds, and 15 "Special Assorted Bargain" to have a good time.
The birds are 4 weeks now, and it's been so fun seeing the variety. Some I have guesses on breed, but I have quite...
Hello!
We've had a few laying hens since 2023 (barred rocks and wyandottes) and decided to add to the flock this year!
We had a ton of fun getting some assortments from McMurray for meat birds and replacement layers, so I'll probably be posting some breed ID questions at they get bigger.
