Yep, it is covered with Savlon and she's still opening it.
I've decided since all this has been a complete nightmare, I am going to keep updating in case anyone else finds themselves in our situation.
We have also more recently tried wrapping a bandage around her, under her wings to stop her...
Hello again, unfortunately after continuing with wound care, it is still not healing.
We've even taped her toenails up to stop her scratching it, to no avail. I really don't know how to stop the cycle, and now her comb is looking paler than before. :barnie
Hello, after getting 3 new bantams yesterday, I've noticed that one of the Sablepoots has a slightly tilted head, and she favours that side to look at things. Another thing is that she seems to have a lower tail then the other sablepoot.
I thought it could be wry neck, however her balance is...
Unfortunately I don't have a picture of the cut underneath that flour, I didn't have a phone handy at the time.
I was wondering if it could be a feather shaft, but for such a tiny chicken it really is huge, it must be around half a centimetre!
I must have been applying pressure for at least...
Update-Today she managed to scratch the scab so that it lifted half off on one side.:barnieI ended up removing the scab, and underneath, and from what I could see it is almost a circular hole of skin?
I couldn't get it to stop bleeding and so there is now another mound of blood and cornflour in...
The vet confirmed what we were saying, and said to try and bathe it to loosen the scab. It isn't infected, however she has reserved antibiotics just in case.
We are going to keep her seperated for now, and have bought some antibacterial powder for it.
I'll update you if anything else happens!:)
Hello again, since then, it is still a lump on her head, and it occasionally opens up again and bleeds, today however i found her after it had caught and it had bled a lot, and while cleaning it up it opened AGAIN, and was a nightmare involving cornstarch to get it to stop bleeding. I'm not sure...
Hello! After having chickens for about a year now, we have decided to add to our little flock of 3. Currently we have one pekin bantam, one sablepoot and a frizzled pekin who tends to get picked on. All of our hens are very friendly, come running when they see us and are up for a cuddle.
We are...
Thanks for the reply! I don't have a rooster, so it can't be that. I'll have another look today and clean it up again and make sure the others aren't pecking at it.
Hello, my hen has an issue very similar to this, as well as one toe that points partially upwards on the other foot. What could this be on an adult bird?
Hello! Today I've noticed a strange lump on my chickens head. It seems to me as if she's had some kind of damage to her head (possibly a peck?), and this has led to a lump of congealed blood and feathers forming a strange new hat for her?
I've applied some wound spray and hoped since she's...
Yes, she was wormed a few months ago, and has been laying for longer than that. She is on layers pellets, however I can't remember the brand. Hope that helps!
