I love our ducks. They are just as much fun to watch as the chickens and they all get along together. I can not say that for the times that we tried to raise turkeys and geese with our flocks. That didn't work out too well. Enjoy your new friends.
It is perfectly normal for eggs to lighten during the laying cycle. I believe it has to do with how fast the egg travels through the oviduct. When our Maran eggs lighten, they are just as dark again during the next laying cycle, so I wouldn't be too concerned.
