    Time to butcher?

Possibly about 10lb/5kg, maybe a little less. They are quite big, often mistaking them for their mother lol. There are 3 hens and 3 toms. 1 hen is particularly small though and probably only about 3kg.

    Time to butcher?

I'm not 100% sure but here's a pic of the type they are: http://www.trademe.co.nz/Business-farming-industry/Farming-forestry/Poultry/Other-birds/auction-348195145.htm I wouldn't know what they weigh. We have soooooooo much land for them to roam but they stay by the house and I just can't take...

    Time to butcher?

I have 6 16 week old turkeys that I'm keen to butcher. The poo is just getting to be too much for me so wondered how soon can I butcher them? Ready for them to go, driving me nuts.

    Introducing new chicks to adults?

We just acquired six 8 week old bantams. Right now they are in a pen by themselves but we would like to put them in with the others we have. We have 3 hens and 1 rooster, fully grown and quite big breeds (Orpington and CobbX). Is there a certain age that they should be introduced to each...

Fanz - are you in America? We are at the start of summer here. The two sisters nested just perfectly for their first time a couple months ago. From 16 eggs we have 8 healthy poults out there. So I really never thought there would be an issue this time around. Now I sure wish they nested...

    shocked and saddened :(

We may have to try that. This time she was on the neighbors property. Now I'm worried about the other nest. Just gutted. Went back out and another egg taken so buried the rest, I'm not feeding anything other than us. DH is thinking it was a ferret. I wonder if we moved her when she started...

    shocked and saddened :(

I just checked on one our free range turkey nests and there are only 6 eggs remaining when there were 17 just 2 days ago. I'm so upset. And highly annoyed. This hen comes off often whereas the other one rarely does. It's taken her a month to lay that many. I'm so mad that something else has...

    Disappearing Hen?

Thanks everyone I've not been getting updates in my inbox so didn't realize there were more responses. I feel much better by all your responses. She looked pretty frail when she came out but nice to know she will come out once the poults are ready. She's the timid one of the 2. the other...

    Disappearing Hen?

None, we are predator free, just have the highway nearby. But as soon as I asked this question she came out to eat tonight lol. I've followed her so know where her nest is now Is this common though for them to disappear for so long?

    Disappearing Hen?

My husband and I are new to this turkey business. We've only got 2 hens and a tom, all free ranged. Nearly 8 weeks ago the sisters had a communal nest and we now have 8 cute hatchlings They are sitting again. Well we know one is. But the other one has disappeared. She vanished 8 days ago...

    Aggressive Tom

I just cringe with this one. And he's attacked another 5 year old boy that has been here visiting and we think cause the boy was wearing red. He really feels threatened by that color. We didn't get them as chicks either so I'm hoping his offspring will be less aggressive since they've been...

    Aggressive Tom

Seven months ago we purchased 2 hens and a tom. All are free ranged. Nearly 8 weeks ago both hens successfully hatched eggs in a communal nest. Now they are nesting again so Thomas is looking after the chicks. We've noticed that he is getting aggressive with our daughters and will start to...
