    Just brought home some babies

They are doing great now. Eating like little piggies. I think they were just exhausted from being put in new evironment and everything. Hopefully I can get a camera today and get some pics posted. To blackbird12: are those fuzzy ones silkies? I am a very very new chicken and have no idea...

    Just brought home some babies

Quote: There is a cooler spot in the brooder. But they are staying under the light. Did finally get them to drink some water & a couple of them ate a little. But they are all still just sleeping & not moving around much. Is that normal?

It's day 23 & no signs of eggs hatching.

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone for all the great advice and support. Unfortunatly none hatched , but we will try again. Just not right now (my nerves can't handle it). I plan to get all the kinks worked out of my bator completely before we try again. For now, we just got home with 5...

    Just brought home some babies

We just bought 5 baby silkies. They are just under a week old. We have put them in their brooder and they are settling in. Just had a couple of concerns. We put a thermometer in and it is reading about 95. But the chicks are staying under it, but are panting. I showed them where the water...

It's day 23 & no signs of eggs hatching.

Day 27, & nothing yet. We have 6 inches of snow on the ground (this never happens in GA) so I am praying we don't loose power. Supposed to get some ice today on top of snow we already have. Temp staying around 30 all week. Hoping to leave eggs in bator for a few more days. May be crazy but...

It's day 23 & no signs of eggs hatching.

Quote: So glad you posted this. I was going to open them all tomorrow. There are not any with an odor & I thought they would have an odor if they weren't any good. We started with 12 & have elimated 3 because of them starting to stink, but all at different times. One in first couple of...

It's day 23 & no signs of eggs hatching.

Quote: We did have one pipp, but never got any further. When I opened it up it was fully developed, but it's insides weren't all inside. It was like where the "umbilical cord" (I guess you would call it) connected to its belly didn't close all the way. But we heard it cheep and everything...

It's day 23 & no signs of eggs hatching.

It's a homemade bator. We made it out of an old cooler. I think the temp has fluctuated too much. The eggs seemed to stay at a constant temp, but I never could get a real good reading on them. And I'm not sure how acurate my humidity was being read either. I just thought since the one that...

It's day 23 & no signs of eggs hatching.

It's day 25 & still nothing. Put one in water and I'm pretty sure it moved, but not positive on that. Can anyone tell me what the latest day is I should wait? Does anyone know if there is a way to get them to hatch? Or if after the last day I might could start one and see if it lives? I...

It's day 23 & no signs of eggs hatching.

Quote: I would try this, but I'm afraid to keep them out of the bator for too long. But if you think It wouldn't hurt I might try it. This is our first time doing this. I don't think I was this anxious when I had my boys.

It's day 23 & no signs of eggs hatching.

Quote: The clear spot is at the fat end of the egg. So I decided to leave them until day 26 & see what happens. After that I may break one open to see if I can tell what went wrong.

It's day 23 & no signs of eggs hatching.

Does anyone know of good place in north GA to get baby chicks? My boys are very upset about the eggs, so I thought I could find some baby chicks for sale instead. We already had brooder & everything ready for any chicks that hatched. Sooooo sad! :

It's day 23 & no signs of eggs hatching.

Just candled eggs. Pretty sure all are gone. 3 had not developed at all. 6 are completely dark except for clear spot about the size of a quarter. No movement though. And clear spot was too uniform ( if that makes sense. Not sure how to desribed it).

It's day 23 & no signs of eggs hatching.

One pipped on day 18, but never got any further. when I opened the egg the chick was fully developed, but died. It's day 23 now & not a peep out of the rest. Can anyone tell me if there is still hope for the other 9 eggs? This is our first time incubating eggs.
