It hatched March 26th, a Saturday, so the day I posted it was actually, 16 days. I marked the date down on the calendar. Couldn't forget that date since my chicken eggs hatched the day before, on the 25th....so no, it's not over three weeks old.

they're adorable.....and me too...I think I'm done with my hatching...only have two, soon to be three white dove eggs in the bator - some test eggs on their way...other than that, it was lovely to meet all of you and I took some notes as I did with my first hatch, from your experiences...all in...
though I've only had two hatches to speak of, I've let them get almost completely dry (about 4-5) hours and into the brooder they go...but if you see the baby panting, go ahead and give it some relief by putting it in the brooder....

I went for it...was sitting on the fence about which one to get, sportsman or dickey....I went with the Dickey - figured it has great reviews and it's cheaper...only downside - THREE weeks for delivery! Guess I'll have to sit on my hands and try to hatch my hands.
Mike, thank you so much for the info on the Faverolles and Dutch Bantam - it's going to be quite a drive (2 hrs and a fuming hubby but I did find a breeder in my area and the seller is helping me to time the pick up of the eggs with the new Dickey I just purchased today...it'll be 3 weeks for...
As long as my brooder is nice and warm they go into the brooder. This amounts to 4-5 hours in the bator after hatching and they're not completely dry but they're okay and seem to do well.
I can only give my experience and because this is the first time I've used it, it may not mean much...BUT, I am currently testing out a Zoo Med ReptiTemp 500r - a thermostat reptile keepers use - and I am really kicking myself for not having bought it before doing my last hatch....It is working...
I'm eager to know too...I was thinking a Dickey because it's cheaper but would love to see what people think of the Sportsman before making a decision.

Look at him/her just sitting there after all your suffering - as though hatching were a breeze!! I'm pretty sure it's not a breeze for them either, poor little thing, looks like he's taking a well deserved rest - I hope you have too, though I know that's hard....I'm so glad to see everyone's...
