Do you sell your veggies/plants at the farmer's market?

I was wondering if anyone does backyard veggie gardening and selling at the local farmer's market? If so, what varieties are you growing/selling? What do your customers go crazy for? I ask because I have a huge garden and I love starting all sorts of plants from seed so I'm thinking about...

    Crickets and mealworms

Quote: it really is! I think I'm going to watch it again today....I just ordered some mealworms off of eBay. Twenty four bucks for 2200 of 'em (medium to large size) and that includes one day shipping. They should be here Feb. 1. Is anyone else gonna start doing it? Wanna be "bin buddies?"...

    Feeding egg shells

The past couple of days I've been feeding them the frozen eggs I'm finding in their nest boxes. I just toss them in boiling water for ten minutes or so, let cool for a bit, then throw the whole thing, including the shell, in my Krups mini grinder and pulse it 4 or 5 times. Wow do they go nuts...

    Crickets and mealworms

Quote: I watched the YouTube video on that thread and I've decided to raise meal worms for my girls. The YouTube author only uses oatmeal as bedding and some baby carrots for moisture... can anyone give me some input about adding different kinds of grains (like cornmeal and cream of wheat that...

I'm definitely doing that this spring...it will also provide some shade from the blasting summer sun that hits their run midday. Thanks for the great idea!

Very nice to meet you Eenie, WT, HH, Awesome, Cacc, Deanner, and Shellz! Thanks so much for the welcome! Eenie and Cacciatore...I'd love to add BO's to the family! My sis has 2 so I know how absolutely loveable they are...I was just concerned that my SLW's would bully them once they're all...

    Homemade flock block recipes

After reading thru the entire thread, I decided to give it a shot and make my own. I had to coax them to it, but once they realized there were raisins in it there was no stopping them. 2 slices whole grain bread torn apart and soaked in 1/4 cup milk for 5 minutes. 1/2 cup each: cornmeal...

What do your chickens eat for breakfast?

I gave them the warm, cooked oatmeal yesterday and boy, was that a hit! I'll add raisins to it today and I was thinking about maybe adding cooked egg like some of you do. I never would've thought to feed them eggs....seems weird to me for some reason? Clearly I have much to learn.

    Hi - Newbie from UNY

aww....I hope he gets to stay. I'm glad this came up cos I had decided to get a GLW roo along with the girls and it honestly didn't occur to me to speak to the neighbors first. Hey...we've endured their oh so noisy dogs and children for years so they can suck it up and deal with a little...

What do your chickens eat for breakfast?

Cooked oatmeal? I'm gonna give that a shot since it's supposed to be around zero degrees for the next couple of days. They always have their layer feed available to them. When they're let out in the morning they get their mixed bird seed with extra BOSS added to it by me. Then late morning they...

    Hi - Newbie from UNY

Quote: Yikes...I hope the drive went okay for ya. It was horrible out there! and I read that SLW's can be big meanies around other breeds of chickens...it's one of the reasons I'd rather not add Buff Orps to the family, even though they were my first choice. I wanted a very gentle, "pet-sy"...

    Hi - Newbie from UNY

So happy to have found your forum! I'm relatively new to the wonderful world of chickens...it started with a purchase of 6 Silver Laced Wyandotte day old chicklets last April. They were in my kitchen for their first eight weeks....made the gradual move outdoors....and have been living in an...
