Reading your post has brought me to tears...I understand what you are saying. Almost word for word. I lost my Grandpa a year ago April (4-15-09)...it was only 4 months after I lost my aunt(12-15-09). Both deaths were heart wrenching and sad.

In the winter I usually have one of those electric dog water dishes that prevents the water from freezing...I use that for the birds...I do how ever also put in other things for water, but they do freeze...ie old roaster, sause pans...

Our Newfoundland/St. Bernard cross is constantly being chased by our tom turkey.....The turkey makes a point to chase the poor dog where ever he is when outside.
The dog will coward away from the turkey, but always looks to the hen turkey for protection....Guess that could be a major reason why...

Well I checked ALL the choices....I know probably not the right way to do it, but they all fit...
I live on a 45+ acre farm and have a wide variety of animals, and chickens are just a natural choice. We also butcher our own meat, I use the eggs, the girls show the chickens in 4-H (and soon FFA)...
When I was younger I would go around the house singing
"Hell's Fire"(even would sing that in public)......I knew all the words to it, and song it to a T....I even sing it "Hell's Fire" NOW....lol
