We have alot of predators here too. We free range through the day but lock the girls up at dusk....so far we have been lucky. Losts of tracks in the dirt outside the coop but the girls were safe.
Good luck to you and enjoy your chickens as much as I do.
People no longer ask how the boys ( my children ) are and just ask "How many eggs today"?
Is it crazy that I have asked for a "chicken cam" for mother's day?
I got 32 eggs from 30 hens yesterday! Average anywhere from 27-32 eggs/day.
They are happy girls!
I still can't keep up with the demand at work for eggs. I went in with 6 dozen on friday and almost had a bidding war!
I love it

Just told my family this morning that I wanted a "chicken cam". After reading some of the posts here this afternoon, I see a purchase ahead.

I just got 30 new (20 week old) chickens a week ago. We have started to get a couple eggs the last few days but they are laying them on the floor and not in the nesting boxes. Any suggestions to get them to go into the nesting boxes to lay their eggs?
Looking for any help, Thanks.
