as soon as i seperated the brahmas they stopped laying so i only have 4 eggs (1 days laying) that are definitely brahma but i have 3 hens sitting now, a maran a pekin and a La Bresse cross that the maran raised last year. Who knows what ill get when all 3 nests have chicks, ill just have to wait...
i have not read ALL of this thread, i will read it while waiting for a responce to my querie.....
my laying nests are made from strong heavy guage wire mesh, its like a metal grid with about 2 inch squares... like a chess board but the squares are empty if u know what i mean, they were never...
they do it in hatcheries to prevent feather plucking and pecking, it cuts down on injuries but that particular pic looks very severe, don't usually cut off so much and the beak still seems to have a point, usually its a straight cut
i was given a broody today so when i got her home i grabbed 4 eggs from the nest for her to sit on. i really only want to breed brahmas though so this evening i put my 4 brahmas into a coop by themselves so that i know the eggs ill have are defo brahma. thing is i still havent finished my runs...
heres my newest acquisitions a pair of Light Brahmas that are about 10 weeks old
as you can see the hen is so far all white, im hoping she will stay that way and that she produces a white son so that i can start a white Brahma line... how cool would pure white brahmas be
any help that experienced breeders can give me is appreciated
The hen on the right is the one im going to pair with my cockoo x brahma cross rooster. See how badly marked and washed out she is, Im hoping thatll mean the roosters colour will carry over into the chicks

thanx for the advice nic, however, i thought u werent supposed to mate siblings, i was told go no closer than father to daughter and mother to son but never brother to sister. can u explain why the sibling mating please {ill never learn if i dont ask}
im gonna try to make cuckoo brahmas, so id really appreciate advice from experienced breeders how i should go about it. i know colour comes from the cock and body type from the mother but thats about it.....
