Thanks hipeatall! Actually, these little ones are from your stock as well!! I got them from Cheryl Cohen who said she got the eggs from you! :-) We are so thrilled to have them!!
Jeannie.
Thanks everyone!! She is my husband's favorite chick. She is very fast and darts everywhere...super funny to watch. Olive eggs would be pretty cool. We also have a Wheaten Ameraucana...so we'll get blue there! So excited!!

Your #1 is a boy, and he is not pure for blue birchen with the copper leaking through.
#2 is a girl.
Thanks Marquisella. You seem pretty sure! I guess we'll be looking for a new home for him. Hopefully we can find a good one.
Anyone in the Silicon Valley area interested in him?

I'm going to take a stab at this I think the #1 is a little cockerel and I think #2 is a little pullet I also will say with Marans waiting is necessary to be sure the male will get color in the saddle feathers then you will know unless he crows like one of Lisa's......
Thanks...

This lovely chick is 6 weeks old today and was sexed, so we are pretty sure she is a girl but it never helps to get a visual confirmation now that shes older since we cannot keep roosters. So what do you think? Thanks! She is the friendliest of our...

Mottled Javas 7 weeks old Gender??
Back for another round of opinions now that these cuties are 7 weeks old and we have to rehome some of our chicks next week. Based on feedback from 2 weeks ago, were thinking they are both girls!

Blue Birchen Marans - 6 weeks old - need help with gender
Ok, these little ones will be 6 weeks old tomorrow and it is time to determine which we can keep or have to re-home. I had posted some questions before, but now finally have photos!
These are 2 straight run Blue Birchen Marans would...

A hen will usually only show 1 color, so I would think that if that birds has red/copper on its feathers, and is now getting siver hackles, then it is a roo.
Birchen hens will only have the silver hackles. No other color but black. All Birchen birds will have the silver hackles, both...
One of our 5 week old Blue Birchen Marans has started to develop some silver/whitish feathers on "her" hackle area. She has also always had gold highlights on the end of her wing feathers. Do the silverish feathers on her hackle suggest rooster? We have 2 of them, both hatched at the same time...
Thanks for the note Jamie. Our chicks are doing really well, they took to the feed immediately! They seem to really love it. About to switch to the developer version in another week.
One question for you if you don't mind, do you recommend feeding it dry or wet? I feed it to them dry, but...

Thanks everyone for weighing in! Jeremy...I think your wheatens are from the same hatch as ours! From Cheryl? They are so so pretty and delicate. One of them is super sweet and jumps on their feeder to get closer to me to say hi everytime I go near the brooder!
Anyone else have an...
I see markings similar to our Easter Egger chick, the pattern on the head that runs down the back and the coloring on the wing tips. I can post a photo if you'd like to compare. But I'm new to this :-)

Thanks again. All so good to know. Yea, one of the reasons we were wondering if they were boys is their size! We have 2 Ameraucanas hatched the same day and 4 other chicks one week younger (1 Barred Rock, 1 EE and 2 Blue Birchen Marans). We count ourselves lucky to have found...
