I can't wait; last year the quality of birds brought to show was outstanding. I'm ready to gaze upon such splendor once again.
I have a magnificent bantam Aruacana rooster that I was thinking of showing, but of course he had to get into a cock fight (through the fencing no less) the other day and had every tuft pulled out of the left side of his head and his perfect little pea comb is now bloodied and mangled. Little twerp.

I love the picture of this hen and how she has the blue in her tail. She is very pretty.

I have never hatched one that has been that lightly colored, it's almost white! Not even my Splash Wheaten juvie chicks are that pale. My chicks by that age have always been a creamy light brown color if they are pullets or heavily marked with black or blue feathers as well as some light brown color if they are males.
Who's line is this chick from? There were some folks last year that hatched "White Wheatens"... I believe they all ended up being cockerels, too.

My chicks by that age have always been a creamy light brown color if they are pullets or heavily marked with black or blue feathers as well as some light brown color if they are males.
Who's line is this chick from? There were some folks last year that hatched "White Wheatens"... I believe they all ended up being cockerels, too.

I ordered 6 wheaten/blue wheaten hatching eggs from bishopschickens here on BYC. Four made it to lockdown and only one hatched. His photos all looked like pretty nice birds. I'm not sure where his lines originally came from, perhaps I should ask. She was more yellow when she was born and has lightened up quite a bit.
So you think she is a he? I don't mind either way as I have 4 more babies that I just hatched out from another BYC member (greenfamilyfarms). I also put in an order for 12 wheaten/ blue wheaten hatching eggs from Pips & Peeps. I figure I can always sell off the ones locally that I don't plan on keeping.

Thanks everyone for weighing in! Jeremy...I think your wheatens are from the same hatch as ours! From Cheryl? They are so so pretty and delicate. One of them is super sweet and jumps on their feeder to get closer to me to say hi everytime I go near the brooder!

Yeah, I picked up my girls from the eggs Cheryl hatched! I didn't even realize you were in the Bay Area, where are y'all at?
I too have girl that's a bit darker, with more black throughout her wing feathers and in her tail. The other two that I have are a very pale, creamy wheaten with only small amounts of black in their tails. They are already so pretty even at this young age. I'm really excited to see how these chicks mature. You'll have to keep me updated with your girl's growth, too!

I agree with Jeremy that this is one of those white wheatens and it appears to be a cockerel.

I agree with Jeremy that this is one of those white wheatens and it appears to be a cockerel.
