Thanks for the help we will just keep working with them! I guess live and learn we have always said we would never buy full grown chickens, and I feel like we should have followed the same rule for turkeys. Here is hoping these three will cooperate long enough to lay some fertile eggs!
Ok we are new to turkeys. We purchased three seemingly healthy 14 month old Narragansetts about 2 weeks ago.
They are not friendly in the least so we have had to leave them in their coop.
The coop has ample space as well as a roosting bar and a large elevated nest box the coop has straw in...
Hello we just purchased three 14 month old Narragansett turkeys two hens and a tom. They are beautiful healthy birds but are completely wild, I don't think the previous owner handled them at all. Any tips on how to tame them or at least get them comfortable enough with us to get them in and...
Ok so now I am really confused the one I thought was a brown leghorn is for sure not that! Here is a picture of her leg, does that count as a fethered leg?? Is she just a poor example of a Black Copper Maran then? She even has the tiniest little feathers between one of her toes, honestly I had...
Ok all of birds are from Meyer Hatchary we ordered the rainbow layer package they are 20 weeks old
Any ideas on what this little lady is we have 7 of them? Again she is a 20week old pullet.
Ok obviously not an all pullet pack because sure enough here is a cockeral. Any ideas on what...
This is a video I took of our 18month old trying to pet the chickens. She has her favorite baby doll with her and she loves to be in the back yard to feed or pet the chickens.
The chicken she is trying to pet is yellowband one of our naughty australorps that likes to jump over the fence.
At the...
They were born on feb 23 2011
They have been excellent layers I would say they each lay about 6 a week. They had a 2 week run going where they both layed everyday.
I just thought they were supposed to lay large eggs like the br but they are smaller and brown speckled where the br are larger...
I have 2 black australorps that have been laying for about 5 weeks now and they both lay very small eggs and occasionally eggs without shells at all. They are being fed the same layer crumbles that my barred rocks eat but the barred rocks eggs are much larger. The funny part is the...
After reading this thread of yours I know there is corn in the bird seed we feed our chickens so I guess that wont work. We are just getting started as well but if I can answer any questions let me know
Josh
thanks since we are just getting started we dont have any eggs to give away yet. Maybe in a few more weeks when we have built up a supply. We are just feeding ours layer crumbles from rural king and mixed bird seed from rural king as well. They also free range the back yard and are loving...
Just an FYI the TSC in noblesville got ducks in today.
TSC on brookville rd east side is getting some at noon today.
TSC in wesfield got 3 kinds of chicks today but no australorps.
I am in Indianapolis and I am looking for some black australorp pullets anyone have any they want to sell? I have called Orschlien, TSC, and Rural King and no one has them in yet. If anyone sees any at one of those stores close to indy let me know I am hoping to go the day they arrive so they...
Well here is what we have so far!
And on day one we got 2 eggs! Now if only I can get them to use the nesting boxes instead of the floor of the coop.
And here is our black lab mutt checking out the new additions to her yard.
So far this is really fun we are going to have a celebration...
