Yay we had 11 babies hatch on Friday and Saturday! We ended up with 3 (maybe 4) boys, and 4 (maybe 3) Cream Legbar girls. Also, we have 3 mixed babies (we were warned by the breeder that she had a EE who lays in the CL coop occasionally and has the same colored eggs). They came out with fuzzy...
Omg my hatch started last night! One is already out and wobbling around. I have a webcam on it if you'd like to watch: www.youstream.com under Peledreamsofrain.
The darker ones are female gold comets. As for the light ones, they could be one of many breeds that start off light yellow. They COULD also be male gold comets (females are caramel colored, males are yellow).
Yep, little manly dude. Unfortunately you'll have to wait for him to feather out more before IDing him. That color pattern is the most common for chicks across multiple breeds.
Alrighty, this is too funny not to share. Last night I was worrued my thermometer was wrong, so I decided to go out and get a wiggler. After hitting 5 stores, I couldn't find the tube kind and had to improvise.
The only jelly filled item we found was a chicken :p Best part? The only access...
I think you have the same incubator as I do, and I've never set my eggs like you have in your pics. How do you get them to set upright like that, no restraint bar at all. Just sheer cramming? I'm interested to know, because I have way more eggs than I thought I would.
Holy cramoli you guys! I ordered a dozen eggs from the breeder I went through for Cream Legbars. She told me that she'd sent 'a few extra.
She sent 12 extra. I ordered a dozen. Where am I going to put 24 eggs in my little octo bator? Hahaha what a wonderful problem.
I'm thinking of...
Your first almost looks like a Sultan, do you know if the hatchery/breeder you bought from sells those?
The second is absolutely a rooster. He's a Production Red (or a hatchery RIR, basically the same thing).
The third looks like a Laced Wyandotte (can't tell if it's silver or gold from...
It's not a wyandotte. I would agree that it's a barred rock. Her head marking is huge for a female, but her wings are coming in really dark, so that's an encouraging sign that she's a she. Let her feather more, and you'll know for sure on gender.
