Well only 9 out of 20 hatched for me. The fan quit on my incubator and I didn't catch it in time to make adjustments. I'm glad any of them hatched! I had a few quitters when I candled at lock down and I had one that never pipped internally and one that died while zipping... never had one do that...
Gah! I hope my Easter eggs aren't fried! I have eggs stacked in my incubator and my fan quit! I'd put them in my hatcher but it's temp doesn't hold steady. I don't know what to do but cross my fingers. :-(
Is it to late to join the hatch along? I have eggs due to hatch on the 4th. 20 of them; 1 SLW, 1 EE, 5 Bantam Cochin, 3 Buff Orpington, 1 Jersey Giant, 5 Australorp, and 4 Orpa Lorpas... er... English Orpington/Australorp mix. LOL!
Woohoo! I hear peeping in the hatcher. They're due to hatch tomorrow but I already have 3 eggs pipped and a 4th one rocking! This is my first hatch of the year and it always excites me.
If the girls get back to laying I would! LOL! I'm supposed to be collecting eggs for a gal this week and it went and got bitter cold again and no one is laying! I just have a few breeder pens. I wouldn't claim any of my birds are show quality simply because I don't know enough about the SOP for...
I'm in the Cleveland, MO vicinity and it will just depend on how many eggs I can get into the incubator by then. I only have a few buff hens so it won't be like 50 chicks at a time or anything. How many chicks are you looking for?
Thanks :-) I hope your hens did the trick keeping your eggs warm! Very lucky you had them.
Not a wonderful photo, but you can see his toes alright. The uppermost toe is the extra.
Until last night, I never killed the raccoons. I always trapped and relocated them. We have a state park about 20-25 minutes away, down in the Amarugia hills where I'd release them. The only time I ever tried to kill a predator was one year when we had a coyote come back FOUR TIMES in one day...
Hey gang, does anyone know of a good source for LF Salmon Favs in or around the Kansas City area? I haven't lost a bird all winter and last night a raccoon got into one of my coops and wiped out all my Faverolles. :-( I can't tell you how upset I am. I have lots of chickens and the Faverolles...
You'll only be about 30 minutes from me. I'm right down 69 highway, just a few miles east of Louisburg, KS... but I'm on the Missouri side of State Line. You can tell your husband that there are plenty of places where you can have animals but won't have to drive too far to get to KC. Even as far...
I used to buy from Murray McMurray every couple years because I was never into showing. As long as the birds were healthy and recognizable as the breeds they were supposed to be, I was happy. I always had great luck with them. BUT... I am now resolute in avoiding hatcheries. I guess I always...
Hi Kelly! Do you know what area you'll be moving to? I'm about 45 minutes south of downtown KC. LOVE it here. I've got chickens, goats, llamas, horses, and will have rabbits again eventually. If you have any questions or want a critter buddy when you get to town, give me a holler! You'll...
She just told me this morning that there is a church she's eyeballing down there. I don't think she's gone to one yet. That was about the only thing she was sad to leave behind when she moved, she loved the church she went to.
Maybe when I head down to visit her next time, I could swing...
No way! My mom just moved to Long Lane this winter. For the last 38 years she's lived up here by me... just south of KC. But her sister bought a place down there with two houses on it and mom moved into the second house. I've lived in Missouri my whole life and had never even heard of Long Lane...
Thank you so much! Since then we've had four more. We had another set of twin girls and two singles, a boy and a girl. They are so sweet and friendly. LOL!
