I have eight various breed chickens living in an Eglu Cube with an extended run. They all have access to our large, fenced in yard at all times. I have checked them all, and found no evidence of mites or fleas. I've cleaned...
Don't know yet... I'm not an expert or anything near it. I'm thinking maybe hen, because I haven't seen/heard anything to suggest rooster. Sophie (still remains, until proven otherwise) legs have gotten dark, doesn't have a big comb, copper brown feathers only on the back of the neck...
Still looks like a roo to me.
Yea, I did notice some roo characteristics. Larger comb, white feet, lots of white down. But I've still seen some hen qualities too, if what they say is accurate. Tail feathers, no brown feathers, white on her head, shy when playing fighting with other chicks...
Any ideas about gender, or is it too early to tell? We're hoping that Sophie (or Pierre if need be) is going to be a hen. Sophie was sick for 5-6 days, so is a bit smaller than I thought she should be for her age. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
I recently acquired 3 baby chicks from a local breeder: a Light Brahma, a Welsummer and a Black Copper Marans. A few days ago, my Black Copper Marans (Sophie) began panting and was having labored breathing. Sophie also appeared to be weak, would occasionally shake her head from side to side...
