I had a similar problem last week, with a gosling with a bent neck and unable to move.
I also believe in organic but I didn't want the little guy to die so I got some antibiotics from the vet... They worked. He is fine now and back to living with his friends.
I also added sugar to warm water...
Wow that is your garden from this year already?!!?!?
So far I have tomato, eggplant, pepper, onion, and basil seedlings inside. I've planted sugar snap peas, lettuce, spinach, potatoes, asparagus and bok choy outside. Once the weather warms up I definitely planning on planting more!
I get...
I AM THRILLED!!!!!!!!!
The baby is acting totally normal.
It ate grass out my hands this morning, drinking water, getting it everywhere, eating normal food...
and he POOED! I gave him molasses water for 2 hours and right when i took it away he stood up and pooed.
so just a few more...
Okay I just went home and he is looking better. I switched him to a fresh box and gave him fresh sugary warm water. It seems like the brooder pneumonia could be possible because I could never keep up with them! Every time I watered them (3x/day) I would put down new shavings but by the time I...
About 5 minutes after I gave him the antibiotics last night a little liquid was dribbling out of his beak. Does this mean he didn't get enough?
Also could he be constipated? I haven't seen any poo. Or is that just the result of not eating and drinking very little?
Well he is still alive. Not moving very much except his head.
They do have unmedicated feed. The vet I talked to is a farm animal vet... I don't know any avian specialists around the area.
I would say he is doing about the same.
Our latest guess he is has a pneumonia type of sickness...
I called the vet and he said to give the baby some of the antibiotics. I gave it just a tiny amount but I haven't seen any improvement. Possibly even worse. Although its probs not because of the meds. =(
Hmm based on what you guys are saying the two things I am worried about most is the shavings and the grit.
Would they die if they didn't get enough grit?
I went home and the baby had moved about four inches to the other side of the water. He also seemed the cheeping a bit more heartily...
They are actually living in our house in an upstairs bedroom with the door open so they are getting plenty of heat from the house. I turned off the heat lamp a few days ago because they never wanted to be anywhere around it and I haven't noticed them huddling or acting cold since then. They get...
okay it looks like he can hold up his head.
i put a heat lamp on him...
not sure what else i can do
he is not moving other then his head/neck just lying there
woke up this morning and one of my four goslings is definitely dying
it is just lying there with no neck control so i took it out and put it in a separate box... usually terrified of me but made a little peep is all didn't move
is there anything i can do?
it is three weeks old and has been...
I also raised my ducks with my chickens (and a turkey!) and I only had a slight problem when they were a few months old. The chickens started pecking a duck's wings, causing them to bleed. And we all know how chickens are with blood....
so they were separated for awhile but when I put them all...
