How much did they weigh before you processed them? And these really could not be meat birds at 9 weeks and dressing out at 2lbs. I would check with whom you bought them from.- nmantime

I will have to join in a add that with 50 chicks in brooders in the Garage the DW is not complaining about the farm smell coming in from the garage as she has "every" time before as i raised chicks in there. I am not changing shaving as often as i thought i would have to as they are for chicks...- nmantime

Hello Bay Area Folks Found a new feed store (new for me at least) called El Sobrante Feed & Pet Supply. I purchased a 50# bag of DE there for $25.00. I am in N. CA about 35 miles from San Francisco. I have raised layers for about 9 years and a meat bird here and there, along with processing roosters and old stewing hens. I bought the 151 about a month ago. We process just 15 birds (6 4-5 month roosters and 10 3-4yr old laying hens). I cannot express enough how much time it saves using this plucker. the birds came out perfect. I took every ones advice and had the scald temp and dunk time correct. I broke the skin...- nmantime

Vacuum Sealers
Like others have already mentioned, i would not buy the vacum food saver for storing chickens whole or in parts. I have the dual pump model and it really never gets used for any meat packaging. I use the heat shrink bags from cornerstone-farm.com. They have bags in varying sizes from 6.5 x 11 up...- nmantime
