Thank you egh,
I didn't think about the neosporin. I looked at the snake list and can't find it. I know for a fact we have cottonmouths here, but this was definitely not a cottonmouth. It has stripes and is about 18 to 20 inches long, and would overfill two hands.
The silkie is shaking right...
Just found a snake wrapped around my very young silkie. Took care of the snake and the Silkie is alive and upright-a bit shaken but not too noticeably suffering or traumatized. After an exam I found it is bleeding a small bit on its thigh. I am going to clean it with alcohol. What else can I do...
I think some people have actually done it successfully on here befoer. I can't remeber exactly-but you could do a "bra" search using the search feature lol!
P.S. Don't help it if you know it still alive...
So, they should only help if it's dead?!
The signs for helping would be less cheeping, less movement, and/or using your gut instinct. Most intervention will be based on gut instinct along with some physical signs. If someone is questioning...
My oldest "tweenaged" son thought it was goofy to get chickens...at first .
Now if I want to track him down all I have to do is go to the coop area and he is hangin' round talking silly talk to the birds.
I'm gonna have to catch him by surprise someday and film him secretly-so I can play it to...
Small hole-possible weasel? I think the advice about the baby monitor is very good. I use one myself, and it would have prevented a daytime dog attack if I had used it earlier (I couldn't hear my babies being killed from inside the house).
Also, Wal Mart has some very simple and affordable...

And I think it is probably time to help before it's too late.
Best wishes
Congrats! First off make sure you get some chick starter feed-purina makes a good one. Yes, they will need food and water within the first 24 to 48 hours. Try and get them closer to ground level and momma hen will show them how to scratch and stuff-it's too cute when they do this and they are so...
Personally, I do not help any 'stuck' chicks until the hatch is considered over...meaning everyone who could hatch successfully has already done so and is dry and fluffy and ready to be moved to the brooder
Well, some people here don't even get the chicks at the point where they are hatching...
Here's detailed instructions in case you want to help it out. I think it is probably going to need some help soon. How were your temps and humidity?

Here's my experience:
1. They ate chick starter and then switch to laying crumbles when they got older. They drink out of the chicken waterers. They sleep on the roosts in the coop with the chickens at night.
2. Yes. They may be a bit snippy to the chickens if you get them as older birds, but...
I think it means that your temps were off and a bit on the high side. I could be wrong and the temps were too low, you may want to do a search and make sure. I always use 2 thermometers to make sure.
