Horizontal plucker rpm?
I do not want to use a 12 volt motor, the link is only an example how i like to mount the fingers. 110 volts isn't going to work for me because we have 220 volts here I am considering to look for an other motor to make an tub style plucker, If i can get the motor cheap or free i might be able...- kip

I want to mount the motor directly to the plucker like this one http://www.theplucker.biz/ I understand i can use different size pulleys to increase/ decrease the speed but i want to make like an tabletop plucker, as small as possible. Seen US prices for the fingers on ebay, i guess i'm blessed...- kip

Hi all. I'd like to raise my first batch(es) of broilers this year but i do not fancy plucking them by hand. I know a tub style plucker has to be around 200-300 rpm but i cant find anything for the "normal" horizontal shaft/drum type plucker. I was told i can't use my 200 rpm motor...- kip

Hi and welcome to byc. You can try http://www.kooyandsons.com/ they are an international breeding farm/ trader in Holland, they ship live birds. They haven't got any quail mentioned on their site but i guess they are able to get some and ship them. -

To be honest i thought the mesh would be to big and i believe 18 gauge isn't very comfortable for the birds to walk on. There is 1/2" wire available but it's really exspensive and only for sale on large rolls, i will look for a (feed) shop were they sale it per meter. I will put pieces of wood... -

Free ranging fowl
Like Ntsees said, i wouldn't take the chanche with pheasants, wild ducks or quail, not even coturnix, in my experience they are not suitable for freeranging. Were i live a lot of fruit nurseries and tree nurseries use ducks and guinea's for weed and bug control. The birds are free ranging and... -

I was given 2 hens lately and my other chickens got coryza about a week ago, the womon that gave me the hens told me they had coryza 2 years ago. When a chicken is cured from coryza it still carries it but you can't see that the chicken still carries it. An cured chicken never gets the symptons... -

Perhaps the quails lay their eggs because you've handled them, it could be a kind of natural instinct to drop the egg to be quicker. My 4 hens always lay their eggs around the same time and my ringneck hens will do the same. My North Dutch blue chickens will lay in approximately an hour after... -
