    Hawks hawks hawks....

I just lost my first girl to a red shoulder hawk :*( I kept my gals in their coop for a few days but I hate to do that but don't want to lose anymore. I used to have fishing line stretched out across my chicken yard but since the hawks can zoom through the woods with no problem I thought they...

    Dislocation vs fracture

I've tried to save gals w breaks and it is difficult I've ended up just putting them down. I made a sling-like contraption using a clothes basket (or like those toddler boingey things) to keep her weight off her leg but she ended up trying to get out of that and then dislocated her wing. Good luck.

How big is too big for new layers

Big eggs are not good for the gals but not much you can do. I've had some streaked w a little blood in the past. I always look for the gal whose eyes are bulging from laying that egg :D. There was some blood in the coop but not sure if it was from the gal who laid the egg. I will keep an eye on...

    Impacted crop

This stuff works great for impacted crops. I've saved 2 hens and only took 2 days. Nitron Industries is out of business now. I did some searching but couldn't find anymore info on this product. I would hope there is still a natural solution out there for thatch that would work for crops. I just...

lost a brown leghorn hen & 4 chicks to a snake (warning, dead hen pix)

I had a 5' black rat snake drop from a tree onto my truck yesterday as I drove into my drive. :*( I have week old chicks, 5 wk old chicks. I didn't think about the snake killing the adults. I'm praying for my chickies. UPDATE: I think I may have been driving around with that snake all day long...

How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

I have two apple trees in my chicken yard from Stark Brothers so the deer can't get them. The chickens love to get up in the trees too but that's okay, they love the apples too.

    Multiple hatches with rye neck

I brought my gal inside last night and tube fed her every hour. This morning she is eating on her own so she is back w the others. I guess I caught it quick. Gave her liquid vitamins and liquid feed. I am not sure if she hit her head or just had a nutritional deficiency. All the other chicks are...

    Multiple hatches with rye neck

One of my 6 wk old chicks I hatched out I think has this. I just went out and found her like this. She seemed fine and now she is having trouble holding her head up. I am feeding Purina Chick Starter.

Topic of the Week - What do/can you do with unwanted roosters?

I try to re-home them and if can't, then they are processed for food either by me or someone I give them away to. Sad part of hatching your own eggs.

    Eclipse 2moro

I am south of Murphysboro IL and in the 100% range. The chickens did what they did 7 yrs ago with that eclipse, just stood there. 7 yrs ago it was completely dark and they froze, this yr was not as dark and they just acted as usual but some just stood there wondering if they should go in and...

Chickens stopped laying during first winter

My green egg layers have done a mass strike and aren't laying. Three are 3 yrs old and two are not quite a year old. They all stopped suddenly. None are molting. Odd it is just the green ones no matter their age. They will start a union soon I imagine.

    Dreaded Bumblefoot

After nearly 2 months, my rooster's foot is getting better. Such a hard time for him and me. The thing that finally cleared it up was an antibiotic I squirted in the wounds. He is still limping and swollen but haven't gotten any puss/curds out this week. I'm still checking it every 2 or 3 days...

    Dreaded Bumblefoot

I put a towel over my chicken's head when I soak or tend to my chickens. It helps calm them. I've been working on a terrible case of bumblefoot on my rooster for a month now. I soaked, vet did debridement, still an issue but getting some better. The infection went up the foot so 2 bad spots I'm...

Nov 2023 Organic chicken egg prices How much do you charge and where are you located?

I know I can't say they're "certified organic" but I will tell them they're fed organic feed and date started that feed. As far as going rates in my area, that's why I posted this question and asking people''s location so I can figure that out.
