  • Hi Betszy57! In reference to your comment on my Coops "Don't understand what the roosts have to do with preventing frostbite?" My answer is that not only do chickens get frostbitten combs they can also have frostbitten wattles and even feet, by having a larger roost bar for them they can protect their toes much better than a small round pole, because when they sit on their feet they are covering all of their feet on a broad bar vs round small one. If you google frostbitten chicken feet you will see why it is suggested. So many nice complenents on the coops so glad I could share them and see some others make them too!     I use two by fours with the wide side up. If you buy studs they are more rounded on the corners and ready to use without whittling upon the corners.
