Did you ever find out about Wazine affecting your egg layers? I gave mine Wazine about the 1st week of March and my two Americaunas haven't layed since. I have a Rhode Island that's going strong, but I don't know what the deal is. They could be moulting, but that's just a guess since I don't...
I just recently read on here about a buff that had a mite infestation causing her rear end to turn very red and swell up. The thread was started by alaskapalo, I believe. You may want to check it out.
Just checking in on your sick hen. Is she eating any better? I had a sick one recently and gave her cooked oatmeal and sometimes some bread because other people on BYC told me to stop giving her yogurt, applesauce, and buttermilk due to them causing diarrhea. The stool was like clear goo with...
Well, another good day.....I'm hesitant to say, she may be through the worst of it. I massaged her this morning and this afternoon, and I could swear that "doughy" mass is no longer there. Again, I could be wrong but it sure felt a lot better. I'm letting her be tonight because she seemed so...
What's the status of your sick hen? You should copy and paste the Q&A section from the emergency page. That's how I got started, and all kinds of people were willing to help me out. Good luck!
Another good day today, though I'm cautiously optimistic! I am still crop massaging and doing garlic and cranberry capsules. She stinks, but doesn't seem to mind and maybe even likes the massaging. Just to be sure, how often are you supposed to massage? I thought I read 3 times daily...
I'm sorry about your hen. I'm very new to chicken keeping, but I will be watching her progress. Is it possible she laid a larger egg and now she is egg bound? I've read some threads on here where you can give them an aspirin water mix....
I'm new to the website, too. Everyone told me these things when my hen became ill...check her crop, check for parasites, and check for egg binding. I would start with those things. I keep getting told NOT to put them on antibiotics unless you know what the problem is.
Well, great....crop stasis. I am gonna have a whole new topic to research. I never thought I would be studying so much about chickens when I was a student!!! I'm gonna get busy....
Thanks, speckled hen.... Of course, your news is not good news.... I do enjoy the learning, though. And of...
Good deal! You are so lucky to have a vet that sees chickens! Glad that you're on the road to recovery. She is a beautiful girl. Btw, did you see any evidence of mites on her? I'm just wondering for future reference. With every post I read, I learn and learn...
I did it!!!! I got a garlic clove down her gullet!!! I even got the gelcap down her throat. I am so excited. Not to mention, she had a good day today. I am beginning to think there may be a crop problem here, too. Her crop feels "doughy." I compared it to the other girls, and her's is...
What a great story, wolftracks! Ever thought of installing a disco ball in your hen house?
Chicken had a horrible day yesterday! You could tell she felt crappy. Today is a different story. She OBVIOUSLY feels better. The roller coaster behavior is sooo frustrating.....geez
I have actually done this...and never thought I would. I put on a latex glove...put some lubricant on my finger and placed it in her vent. The books I have read don't say "what" it feels like...it just says you will feel it. So.....if still no egg soon...you'll have to step up your efforts...
And by the way, I found this link on another forum regarding your question about you getting people getting chicken lice.
