Egg Bound or internal layer ~Picts~

Still no egg.

She is squatting like she wants to lay one and she gets all fluffed up.

I am going to give her another bath tonight and see what happens. She is still eating and drinking normally and pooping.

Still no egg. She is in for her 2nd bath right now. How can I feel for the egg if she is egg bound. What does it feel like? Where would it be? Lower or higher in her abdomen?

I have actually done this...and never thought I would. I put on a latex glove...put some lubricant on my finger and placed it in her vent. The books I have read don't say "what" it feels like...it just says you will feel it. So.....if still no egg soon...you'll have to step up your efforts. Try searching some forums on this site. I have founds TONS of stuff by doing that. Good luck. At least she looks really cute in her bath!

Ok, give me an update.......

I took her to the vet and she said that she was not egg bound and had layed within the last week. Her red abdomen was swollen due to her mite infestation. It was so bad when I got her. I am so glad I rescued her she has turned out to be one of the sweetest hens I have ever had.

But I have some ointment to help with the redness.

Good deal! You are so lucky to have a vet that sees chickens! Glad that you're on the road to recovery. She is a beautiful girl. Btw, did you see any evidence of mites on her? I'm just wondering for future reference. With every post I read, I learn and learn...

Yes I saw them around her vent the eggs at least, and when I gave her a bath they were visible on her cone and face. They were like white little specks running around on her face. I only saw them when she was real still and not moving around.

grat news about your hen, I know with the TLC she is getting she'll be healed up and one happy chick before you know it.
