I bought 2 Production Blue (Rhode Island/Blue Australorp) I call mine Rhode Island Blues. LOL I just like the name better. But they are the sweetest birds and started laying around 4 months old. We only pay $2.50 a bird from our feed store. Good Luck to you.
I would pull the metal roof, lay down some plywood and then attached the metal roof to it. Your roof is at a slant,is it not? Can't tell by photos. Good luck.
Test the nipples by pushing up and down on them to see if they are flowing. If your bucket lid is sealed tightly, there is no air flow. That's been my case in the past. I start my new chicks off on a nipple so they are acquainted with it from the beginning.
My hens do not want to eat their feed inside the coop, they rather scratch for it off the ground but I don't want it outside because the wild birds eat it if the hens just leave it lie. How can I encourage them to eat indoors? It just goes untouched indoors. Thanks for your input.
I had someone ask about Henrietta already. We'll will have to see on her yet. Sarah is still available. She MUST and I can't stress enough MUST go to a home where she will not have access to grass. I've saved this poor girl twice now from death and don't want to see it happen again to her.
Thanks.
1) Henrietta- 2yr old New Hamphire/Sussex cross, handraised, easy to handle, IS CONSTANTLY BROODY. I have broken her of it several times only for it to last a few months and she's right back to sitting. She needs a home where she can be a mama. Ready now.
2) Sarah- 7 months old Rhode Island...
UPDATE: My girls have found a new home with Chickyboomboom. I hope you all live happily ever after. Thank you.

It's been over a month now since I broke my hen from broodiness and she has yet to start laying again. Her disposition has changed to where she use to be very friendly and now won't hardly let me touch her. :(
Sorry for waiting so long to conclude, but after a few days of my method the hen rejoined her flock broody-free. She has yet to start laying again and now seems to be moulting. LOL
Yeah I have a broody hen, too. First time for her and I'm not planning on any more chicks; no fertile eggs. I have taken her off the nest several times today, but she's gone right back on. I put her in a sectioned off area in the coop where she can see the others and hopefully just want to get...
I got 3 hens at the age of 3 months. Kept them separate from the older ones for months and was feeding everyone the same thing. At age 6 months I turned all the hens out into the yard to free range and so they could all become acquainted. Everything seemed fine for the longest time up until a...
