I had a brooder full of BR's and one was extremely loud. My daughter picked it for that reason and I swore it was going to be a roo. It turned out to be a pullet and every time I heard her I knew the food dish was running low or the water had become shaving filled!

TREATS! Mine became awfully friendly once they realized I doled out goodies. That being said, 25 is an awful lot to try and hand tame at once. I don't know how much time you have to devote, but just grab one and pick it up for a few minutes each time you go by the pen.

Your answer could depend on tons of factors. Can you be more specific about what's okay, and what's not? What kind of "dog" person are you (and the other members of the family)? Big/little, barking, high energy or lazy, will it be in the house alot? Many breeds of dogs bred for working...

You didn't mention what type of tree it is. That makes a big difference... oak or pine, sure. Some tree shavings (black walnut for example) are very toxic.

I keep hand sanitizer by the brooder to use before we even head to the sink to wash hands. I am still concerned though. I have a 2 year old as well who scales the baby gate and loves to come back and tell me how gentle she was by touching them with one finger!
