I was sooo mad at our dog. Sunday he got into the chicken run, and he killed one of my hens. I thought that he had killed another one, and a couple others were missing, but the one recovered and the others somehow got out in the chaos only to return out of the bushes a few hours later unharmed...
hmmm. my chickies only go into the coop when it starts to get dark. I don't have a light in there so by the time they're settled its darker in the coop than out.
Your right! Looks sortof like mine... very nice. Yours looks a little more sophisticated than mine though. Mine's all just scraps and recycled stuff nailed together.
ok, i've seperated them with chicken wire and given each group their own food and water. i'll leave them like that for a few days and see what happens. i've actually left a small opening for the smaller ones to go back and forth if they want to.
on another post someone said that you should lock them in the coop for several days before you let them out. that way they know it's home. have you tried locking them up for some time first? if so just ignore what i said.
Actually, it's not bad. I've been in the coop when the kids have been up there, and since the fort is not actually over the coop, it's not that loud. I've actually still been building up there ie. hammering and sawing, and the chickens don't seem to be bothered.
I got most of my 2x6 from our old sundeck which i tore down in the fall. i salvaged a bunch of wood from a building site near by, I've torn apart some pallets, and I bought some windows, doors, and lumber from our local habitat for humanity recycling store.
Not quite done yet though.
I'm a newbie, and figured I'd post my coop/shed/kids fort combo pictures. I've used mostly scrap or recycled material. I'm not quite done, but will post more when I get there. That's me on the right.
ere.
A big helper.
The bottom floor through the main doors is the shed part. From there there's...
is it really bad to give them a longer supply of water? I made a 5 gallon waterer, and I've left it for a week. The water's not that dirty and they've only drunk about 1/4 of it so far. Should I change it immediately?:gig My son wanted to put these two smileys in.
I know that its been talked about already, but I'm going to bring it up again. I put my older set of chicks into the coop last week, and the younger set yesterday. They were all in the same brooder up til then and did fine together. But today I went in the coop and the younger set are all...
