This is SO cute!!! Guinea hatched out a chicken this morning!

Because the guinea is still sat on her nest in a horse stall in the barn, her eggs are not due to hatch until at the earliest next week-end! The chicken chick needs warmth and food and a safe place to be......besides all of that - we never let our guineas raise their chicks, we catch them as...

This is SO cute!!! Guinea hatched out a chicken this morning!

Yes! Our chickens and guineas all free range and share the coop at night and live in peace and harmony , its totally brilliant - still so excited that a guinea hatched out a chicken, lol. The chick will be raised inside as its the only one, just setting up its nursery in the house (hubby is away...

This is SO cute!!! Guinea hatched out a chicken this morning!

My latest batch of guinea eggs are not due to hatch for another 10 days or so.......so I was VERY surprised to see a broken egg shell out of the nest this morning! Moved the hen slightly and a chick appeared from under her - A GINGER CHICK! After I picked myself off the floor dying with laughter...

    Why the sudden change???

There is NO sense when it comes to guinea behaviour, that is one of their endearing features, there is absolutely no figuring them out!

Heat and collecting eggs to eat

I would say yes if they are in the shade and not in direct sunlight, our temps here in Missouri have been HIGH all summer, I collect our chicken eggs late in the day, never had a bad one yet. If in any doubt, crack one open and smell it - you'll know if its good or not!!!

    A tiny miracle!

Well Curly's toes look a LOT better this morning, they are practically straight now, hardly bent in at all thank goodness, so I am not going to mess with them..................................he/she is running around in the nursery with the others, and jumping onto the bricks in there, behaving...

thinking about Guinea Fowl...Need Advice~ Questions?

Hi I have chickens including a rooster and loads of guineas - they get on great! In the winter they all share the coop at night, but in the summer the guineas roost in rafters of our horse barn (don't ask me why, but just do, welcome to the crazy life of guineas!), chickens and guineas free...

    A tiny miracle!

I did a bit of researching about curled toes and the splints and 'shoes' you can make................but to be honest, I have to be the most hopeless person when it comes to that kind of stuff dealing with such tiny objects i.e the tiny splints.........................this chick is tiny too...

    A tiny miracle!

Hi all you guinea lovers! I've had quite a few hatches this year already from my guineas sucessfully sitting on nests around our property, the last batch hatched last Saturday under a huge brush pile, but me and hubby scooped up the babies as soon as Angry Mother left the nest with them...

    Nightmare hatching overload!

Peeps!!! You would have been proud of me, lol! I'm pretty sure all the 'rescued' eggs that are going to hatch have hatched, one more hatched overnight and another one this afternoon, but none of the others are cracking...........I'll see what happens overnight I guess, but I suppose I will have...

    Nightmare hatching overload!

I have no idea why the mothers get so aggressive when they are so hopeless at raising their young, lol! The mother of the 19 who were in the woods opposite is sulking and sitting in the lane in protest, I just heard a car honking and looked over and the driver got out to move her, lol!!!! She...

    Nightmare hatching overload!

Absolute nightmare of a day yesterday, the 40 eggs under the 2 hens sharing the nest by the barn started to hatch yesterday and the 2 mothers LEFT the nest when they had 6 babies. Eggs were cracking so I ended up scooping them all up and putting them under a heat lamp where so far 8 have hatched...

Lol, I found a bunch of chicken eggs in my old unused dog igloo the other day, I wondered where the hens had been laying! I'm in NE MO, might be a bit far to come and get some keets?? The egg numbers have increased:(

Cannot decide what to do with this!

Oh oh - here we go.......................found ANOTHER nest this morning - in a horse stall in the barn! I take everything back that I've ever said about my mad guineas - this shows a level of intelligence for a change! I was convinced they were laying on next doors property - well maybe not!

Cannot decide what to do with this!

My gut feeling is to let them hatch another brood if that's what they choose to do! I honestly couldn't sell any of the last 24 they hatched, they were 'my' babies - but BUT, I honestly can't have anymore! Not sure what the market is like around here for guineas, but should be good this year as...

    bed time

Yup - mine all scream at each other when its bedtime, I have the battle of the ones in the tree above the coop v. the ones who decide to sleep in the coop with the chickens - they all try to persuade the other 'gang' to join them - horrendous! Thankfully when its dark, they give up!
