I'm stumped on diagnosing my sleepy hen!

Hi JJ! You sure do have to be a detective don't you? Suzie is so sweet and still doing great. Hard to believe they were 6 years old in May. Thanks for your note. See you soon. J

So...what are the odds that while lost I would meet a BYCer?

That is so funny. I love it. Last week while I was in line at the McDonald's drive thru a man came up to my window to tell me he liked my magnet. I have the "My pet makes me breakfast" one on there right now. Along with paw prints and my doggie one that says "wet kisses are the best"

BJ roo-Good thoughts grt'lyapprec-NO!RIP my beautiful boy ELLIE UPDATE

Judy, Thanks for the kind words and for sharing the pictures. Ellie is such a wonderful girl to have here. She is so sweet and fit in so amazingly fast. Little by little she is closing the gap with Lou Lou sleeping next to her at night. The last couple nights I snuck out late to see who was...

GS- Sorry to hear of the trouble you're having. I have no experience with the issue (I'm in an area where chickens are welcome) but I really hope it works out for you. It's just sad that you have to deal with awful neighbors. Life is too short to be so unhappy. I'm lucky to have really nice...

Hi GS38! I have had great success using a panel heater. I only use it when temps get super low. It's so nice not to deal with frozen water. It's an Econo-heat electric panel heater. You can find them online and in some Home stores now. It is 400 watts/120 volts/3.5 amps, so just make sure...

BJ roo-Good thoughts grt'lyapprec-NO!RIP my beautiful boy ELLIE UPDATE

JJ, I'm so sorry about BJ. It sounds like you are doing all you can right now. And maybe the blood will show something. I'm glad Ellie is staying with him. Is it possible it's something age-related? Something just slowing down? I hope not. I hope medication can help whatever it is. My...

Hi JJ. Thanks for asking about Lou Lou. She is doing really well. I gave her another week inside then started putting her in an area where she could see the other girls and get some sun for a bit each day. What a nightmare reuniting them. She's the leader so she sure showed them she is...

I went to the Burlington Fair but didn't get to see any birds. All were sent home due to the heat.

Has anyone ever planted a tree in their run?

2overeasy: The peach trees are a great idea! I have about 4 dozen fruit trees. Since I don't spray anymore pesticides I lose just about all the fruit to every bug imaginable. The chickens LOVE all the extras they get. Especially when the Woodpeckers peck the peaches and knock them off the tree.

Has anyone ever planted a tree in their run?

I put plantings in all the time for the chickens. Especially since our fields were almost naked when we bought the house. I gradually add more as I can afford it or get cuttings from people. My parents save me their Maple and Oak babies and I have planted a lot of those. Fall is the only...

    Chicken Hysterectomy

Moxie, Hi. Sorry to hear about Myrtle. The surgery was $350. I wish you the best. Chicken Crazed: I'm not sure about the 'going broody' part. Wendy did still have the urge to go on the nest to lay. None of my chickens have ever gone broody at all to begin with, so I don't really know what...

Thanks JJ. I don't feel any difference between the two sides. I got up under there good last night. She's not any better but I guess it'll be a while. I am giving the baby aspirin. No problem getting it into her. She's still got a decent appetite. I have her in a huge dog crate set up as...
