Hi Mosier,
Sadly we gave up the battle, and re-homed our noisey hens. It's been a stressfull few months and we have tried our utmost to make it work, but I do think we have done the right thing. - we have to live with our neighbours, and I dont think it's fair to spoil their quality of...
Thanks Cara, - I've got a bag of Black Sunflower seeds, - without shells.
I guess just a handfull every now and then should be ok?
Saturday and Sunday are the days they really need to keep the noise down, - fingers crossed for this weekend!
Thanks to all.
Tony
PS - Supposed to rain all...
Nobody could mind the normal 'talkative' clucking, and thats to be expected, - but the very loud sqwarking, - almost like a 'warning to others' alarm, is piercing to say the least.
I'm deff going to try and get some of those sun flower seeds.
We had snow here last weekend, - tho only about 4...
Thanks everyone for all your input, - this weekend will be the testing time, - we may try a 3rd hen to keep the lonley one company when another is laying, - tho this could just double the noise of course :|
And I will try and find some Black oil sunflower seeds, - I've not seen them here in the...
Small World Cara, - Stokenchurch is about 5 miles from me, and is where I spent my childhood for 12 years, we moved to Springfield Road, - from 1965 - 77
I went to school in the village - but both my older sisters went to Wycombe High School.
Maybe our paths crossed in a school playground many...
Thanks Cara
We are in High Wycombe, - the far south of Buckinghamshire. If we decide we have to lose the hens - perhaps your family in Bucks would want them?
Really dont know what to do for the best, we have lots of animals, and have never given up before, We've always done the best for all our...
Thanks Cara, - I'm really going to take some convinceing that they can be shut away till 11am, - not what we had in mind for free range hens
There doesnt seem to be any answers, - guess they have to go.
Thanks Em,
This is the coup, - (a Forsham 603 if the link doesnt work)
http://www.forshamcottagearks.com/poultry-housing/forsham-603-chicken-house.htm
only designed for about 3 hens.
they can have the run of the garden ( provided we keep an eye on our cat - who is stalking them - but thats...
Thanks FutureChickenMan, - it's not insulated, - the weather can be quite warm so dont want to cook them inside.
They are in an ark type roost, - big enough for 2-3 , but I'm reluctant to keep them cooped up (no pun intended) in the small dark space for half the day, - isnt that a bit cruel...
All the previous topics indicate hens are generally quiet, - 'gentle clucking' and a 'squark' or two when laying an egg.
Why do mine have to be so different?
We've only had them a few weeks, - but their days are numbered if we cant sop them squarking for hours on end!
We have two 'rehomed'...
