Buying was easier. The remove and replacing a house is horrible. We were worried we'd have to rent an apartment for the build time or find an RV. Because we have enough acreage, 2 houses are allowed as long as one is under 1200 sq ft. Old house is 900. So they will put new one in front and then...

I'm finally calming down from my stressing out the last several weeks. My brain does not handle stress well. We got the build loan to replace the house with a doublewide. Property appraised higher than expected which helped.

    Silkies - They’re simply SPECTACULAR!

He sounds like he's happy to be a pet. I had an ameraucana rooster who loved to snuggle...except if the hens could see him. If he came inside he'd be on my lap

I'd cull. I don't put up with that even from hens, much less roosters

We did have to buy a dozen. I'm getting enough for us plus to build up a couple, but I took all 3 dozen to Mom which didn't leave us with enough

I remember Costco when the hotdogs were sold in a cart out front with a can of pop. Then they got in pretzels. Back when you had to meet certain requirements to shop there. When the one in Kennewick opened, Dad got a membership and Mom took Grandma and my Great Aunt when needed. They'd split the...

My silkie/EE, silkie/ameraucana, silkie/cochin will use a platform but none have liked roosts. Some sleep with the silkies and some prefer the flat roof. The 1/4 silkies have roosted. I'm still not sure how the fat silkie shaped one get 8 feet to the 4x4 uprights that are my roof collapse...

He was white. I had 4 white hens as well, named after white/grey volcanic rocks. Ash just didn't seem to flow for him

I eat the extra roosters but ones that get names die from old age or illness. My rooster Ashes was a favorite. Sweet boy and posed for pictures. He started going downhill as many old ones do. I separated him to a pen with a hen and chicks. He perked up and made it another 6 months.

She doesn't require much. She's still a reliable layer at almost 8. Can't hatch her eggs. She ignores the rooster. I'd kept my rooster that got blinded by a head peck. He had two older hens that would call him in and out of the house and to the food and water. He got so depressed, though.

I have a mostly blind, elderly silkie who won't even try to get into the silkie house anymore. Steps are too high when you can barely see. I upturned a couple rubber water bowls in the pen and she's been sleeping on them. I need to dig out one of the really big ones and fill it with shavings and...

Most of my silkies sleep in piles. Only a few have roosted. It's a breed thing. If offered a raised platform instead of a roost they tend to like those. Even some of my easter eggers liked a platform. I put one on part of the roost
