They carry diseases that spread to humans and horses. I think disease is less a risk for the birds. If they can find a way into the coop they absolutely will kill chickens.

I also keep them in pots. Except for the oil peppermint by the back door the dogs have almost killed. I need to take starts of it and propagate more. Mom said she isn't sure hers made it. We've had starts of this plants since the 90s.

What lady does like a full of himself little boy? Once the boys mature mentally and treat the girls with respect shouldn't have issues. Sometimes you get smart boys who romance them from the start. I have a romeo like that in one pen. He's also the one who tried to feed chicks as a teenager...

This is Leven's 2nd time growing spurs to this length. They got pulled off before. The spiral is because of his silkie genes. And I just noticed this is his 6 toed foot

That's how my easter eggers are. I miss my ameraucana who would just do their thing, but if I sat down outside would come and sit with me for a bit. My first hand reared EEs were mostly like that as well. The last one died last year. She'd invite herself into the house to steal dog and cat food.

You can breed for friendliness. I have cockerels who haven't been handled become affection sponges once they out of the freak out stage. I have been selecting for sweet boys for years, though. Im set back a bit that after ordering eggs, but each generation improves. Mom thinks it's funny to...

Those are good pictures btw. The primaries are what make me say might be blue partridge. If it is it's a dark blue. Which does happen with blue

That's great. Glad you made the trip well. Moving cross country takes a lot out of you for a few days.

    Silkies - They’re simply SPECTACULAR!

I've had issues with large fowl and silkies. I had some hatchery barred rocks that kept trying to kill the bbs silkies I had. Nothing stopped them. On the flip side, I also had a breed aggressive silkie rooster. He would attack anything that wasn't a silkie. The wheaten ameraucana roosters ran...

Its female. Some can take a long time to lay. Make sure she doesn't have any place to hide eggs. I have sneaky silkies who will do that.

    Silkies - They’re simply SPECTACULAR!

Ive had several hens who go nuts when they are broody and they hear a chick. They will come after me to get the chicks. One does a little dance when she's getting chicks. Had one hen years ago that never went fully broody. I don't think she liked setting eggs. She'd sit in the doorway and...

I've had them pip wrong end and in the middle and hatch fine. Unless they've been way too long at the pip stage I don't interfere to peel them.
