I think you got it! Interesting though the treatment for prolapsed vent is prep.H...what we would use for hemorrhoids, which is what I think I see. I will use it in the morning and try some sugar paste as well, the vet did say they use that for cows with prolapse. Thanks again.
I spoke to the vet, who was not very helpful as most vets do not tend to very many chickens. I have 3 laying hens who are 7 months old that are all of a sudden bleeding from the vent. They have all laid their eggs today, and are pooping ok. I was finally able to pick one up and clean the area a...
Thanks for the help. I am thinking hemorrhoids? Sounds silly but, because they are now in their pen all day and not allowed to roam on the property I have been feeling sorry for them and feeding them bread, and I noticed their outside water has ice in the water, and the it is cold enough to...
Today I noticed 3 of my Red sex link hens, who are about 7 months old with bright red blood, as if they were having a period! They all are laying well, very energenic, eating well. The only difference is the weather, it has gotten cold, freezing this morning. They are kept in their insulated hen...

Thanks for the reassurance...I think that is what I need. This is my first time and I don't want to make a mistake, and I want them to be happy! Amazing how quickly they are transforming...quite the little entertainers!
Is it too early at 5 days to introduce some sand in the brooder? They are pecking at it, seem to like it? I would assume if they were with their mother she would be showing them this?
Oh my goodness thanks for all the info! I just increased the size of the brooder today for my 5 day old chicks, added a small "roost" which they keep trying out! Perhaps in a day or so I will add a frisbee-( thanks TouchO'Lass)-full of sand! Should be entertaining. Oh and the pasty butt has...
I am curious as to when the little chicks would like to play in the sand or other substance, for their dust baths? When do they start this? I have 4 day old chicks and want to have things ready for them. When can I give and what kind of treats do they like? This forum is so awesome for a newbie...
Wow thanks for all the advice. I tried using a damp paper towel to dampen the area and clean it, some came off, then he pooped in my hand! I don't have any vaseline in the house so I will try it in the morning, I guess I will continue to clean off as best I can.
I am a very new chicken owner...have had them for 2 days, and my rooster has dry poop on him. Is this what is called pasty butt? How do I remove it, I am so afraid of hurting him. Any info would be great. I am also very new to using a forum, actually this is my first time. Oh and they are also 2...
