    Coop built on Skids

Hi! Sorry I did not get back to you sooner. I just designed it myself. No blueprints. I used 4-6 green treated lumber for the skids and rounded the ends to prevent digging into the ground when pulling it with the tractor. I have 13 chickens in it, but I think it would hold a few more depending...

What could be mixed with my barred rock?

Thank you, you are probably right. I ordered two barred rock from a local feed store and they both came sick and died. They were replaced with two picked out of leftovers. They looked like barred rock babies, but later I saw that the barred rock babies looked similar to male sex linked. Also...

What could be mixed with my barred rock?

Does anyone have any idea what could be mixed with my barred rock chicken. I believe it is a rooster. He is 15 weeks old. He is twice as big as the other chics I bought at the same time and also those I bought 3 weeks earlier. There is a metalic gold feathering around his neck, on his back and...

    Cost of Cattle Panels

I just purchased cattle panels at Menards (a local building store similar to Lowes or Home Depot) for 18.99 each. Our local feed store had them for 33.95.

I lost my whole world on 4-17-12

My prayers are with you. Wish I had been there. I would have stopped. Sorry. People are so into their own little worlds.

Really? Why do we think they are so fragile?

Thank you for the wonderful post. I will be getting chicks in the next couple of weeks and was getting more and more uptight about all the precise details. It did not totally make sense to me, but I fell for it. Your post was like a slap to get me out of it. Now I will use common sense and good...

I wish I had read the reviews first. Seems everyone pretty much had the same complaints. :-(

Review by '' on item 'Farm Innovators "All-Seasons" Heated Plastic Poultry Fountain - 3 Gal. Model HPF-100, 100-Watt'

I used this product most of the winter until it fell apart and the top cracked. The problem is that when you fill it and attempt to turn it over and set it down, the two halves will fall apart spilling water all over. It happened multiple times, no matter how careful you are. Very frustrating...

    Coop built on Skids

The roof was the only part I had to have help with. My son in-law built 4 rafters to fit the 8 ft width of the coop. They sit right on top of the frame for the body. Menards (WI) had that size rafters already built for that width and not very expensive, but I didn't know they would fit so I...

    Coop built on Skids

Here is a picture of my chicken tractor when it was about 90% done. I move it every week so that the chickens get fresh grass and it helps fertilize the yard. The coop is 8 x 6 ft with an additional 8 x 10 ft run. Of course I do use a utility tractor to move it. I can pull it from either end. I...

    another dumb question

Thank you everyone. You were very helpful. They do have a sand dust bath and added some Poultry Dust to it. I will be moving the pen again tomorrow and will make the new dust bath using the diatomaceous earth and also add a little of the Poultry Dust to it again.

    another dumb question

Hi! I read in another post that they lose baby feathers and grow "big girl" ones; called a "soft molt". I bet that is what is going on. Makes me feel better. That seems to make sense anyway. Thanks for your help.

    another dumb question

I have not seen any mites or lice, but I am unable to handle them. If I dust them with a lice powder, can I still use the eggs? Their coop and run is 8x16 and I move it once a week. I had hoped that would keep lice free. Wishful thinking. There are a few feathers floating around. If it wasn't...

    another dumb question

I have 6 hens that I purchased as pullets that started laying in May. I have been consistently getting 5-6 eggs per day. I do not have a rooster. I have noticed that 4 of the hens have been loosing feathers in the area above the tail for about the last month. It has not affected the number of...
