Yes I'm aware about the medicated starter. The folks at my local feed store are really helpful about those things! Got home after work last evening and moma duck with 9 ducklings in tow had left the nest in the coop and was huddled up in a corner of the 20' x 30' fenced in covered run. My...
Thanks for the reply. I went out at lunch and picked up some starter just in case to be ready. This is starting to be very fun. Hens hatching there own eggs is so cool.
I have a hen setting eggs due to hatch in a couple of days and a mallard hen who has 8 or 9 ducklings that have hatched this morning. My question is; Do chicken and ducks hens feed their babies like some other birds or do I need to provide starter feed and water that the babies can reach? If...
My 21 days was at 6:30 pm on Mon. the 12th. Was getting pretty discourged until I found my first pip this morning. Went home at lunch and found that pipped egg hatched out, still wet but peeping and moving around quite spasticly! Hoping for more!
Just found this thread last night so I'm joining in very late. I have 6 mallard eggs due on 12/19 and 10 chicken eggs due last night. Woke this morning and found my first pip! Yeah!
My first attempt at this incubator thing! If this works I could see this becoming very addictive!

I have 16 chickens and 4 mallards in the same pen. I have a small kiddy pool for the ducks to use and I put 6 of the "Avian Aqua Miser" watering nipples on a length of 2" pvc connected to a 55 gal drum. This is working good for me.
Bought some chicks back in April from TSC and I have a rooster and hen that I can't seem to id them breed wise. Would that be a Pea comb or a Rose comb? Looking for some help from you wise folks here.
Thanks
The hen is on the right in this pic. The roo is out of fosus to the left.

Can't really tell how your coop and run are set up by your picture but on the subject of a cover, I bought a black mesh tarp from harbor freight to cover my 10' x 30' run. I just streched it across the top and used bungee cords to keep it taught.
