What are the best Grasses/plants to grow for chickens?

Chickweed! I know it's a weed, but there's a reason it's named that, and it grows so fast all you'd need are a few clippings and you'd have a feast for you girls in no time. But if you dont want a weed, then just some simple lettuce, or clover like was suggested above is definitely a favorite.

    Our Texas-sized coop

Wow, those are some LUCKY birds!! And as to the run question leaving it as dirt is fine, they'll scratch everything up anyway, but my girls loved it when we put in some mulch for them to pick through. Throwing in some of the grass cuttings when you mow the lawn is also good.

Big question, why did all of you new chicken owners get chickens?

This is great, I love hearing why everyone has chickens. For me, it started when I was in sixth grade and read a book where one of the main characters had her own flock of chickens. I had never really though about that type of thing, but the idea really stuck with me. As I started to get more...

    Coop Almost Finished

Wow, that's awesome, looks like a palace but it a nice, woodsy way! You got some lucky chicks, especially seeing as you've put so much time into it and I know how that feels. It took us a good 3 months of every day after work until dark to get ours finished, but ours isnt as big as yours!

Do people look at you weird when you say you have pet chickens?

I have gotten some pretty crazy looks, but a lot of my friends actually think it's cool and get really interested when I tell them about my girls. I take it as a teaching opportunity to break any steriotypes about having pets like chickens and when they come over I can show them about where...

Hey everyone, so excited to be here!

Hi everyone! So I've been lurking here on the site without signing up for about a year now to find enough information to convince my parents to let me get some chickens. And now as of Saturday I finally have them, so I decided I could/should join!!! My dad and I converted a wooden playstructure...
