3 days ago, I separated my Ayam Cemani, Cinder, from the flock because she was limping. I've been checking her feet twice daily and there is no sign of bumblefoot. Today, I took her out so she could get some grass, and noticed her lame leg looks like it's peeling. I was hoping it was just a...
He'd be ok with it, if I could pay for it... I'm a stay at home mom with an Etsy store and I do craft fairs. It pays for my chickens and then some. It works for us!
I'm impressed so far. She's very sweet.
I have a new addition! She's in quarantine in the basement for now. She's an Ayam Cemani, about a year old. Her coloring isn't perfect, so she's not breeding quality, which makes this the perfect home for her. She's very quiet so far. She literally fell asleep in my arms.
I don't have a...
Well, she's here. She's an Ayam Cemani, about a year old. Ayam Cemanis are an Indonesian breed. Her coloring isn't perfect, so she's not breeding quality, which makes this the perfect home for her. She's very quiet so far. She literally fell asleep in my arms.
They are truly pets :) Only one is laying right now. For the longest time, my husband said no more than 4. We had a 4th, but she passed last fall (she was about 8). Now he's ok with adding more. Later this spring I'm going to be getting chicks and building a larger coop/pen.
I have an extra dog crate, but not a full outside kennel. My current flock is in a 12x7 dog kennel as their pen. I wouldn't trust the dog crate outside at night. If I did the basement, I could take her outside for a few hours in the walk-out. I should mention that the basement area is a walk-out...
I don't have an additional coop or secure place to quarantine outside, away from the coop. Can I quarantine in the basement? She'd have a bunny for company (not in contact, but same room).
She's coming from my husband's cousin, so it's a semi-known flock. I have not been to her place though. She'll be in my area in the morning and is bringing the hen by so I can see her.
I may be adding a single, year old hen to an existing flock of three (aged 5-6 years old) tomorrow. Her current owner has had her for one month and she thinks she needs more room. My pen is 12x7. I have a pet carrier/dog crate I can put her in for during the day (in the coop), but am concerned...
Does TSC also have ducklings for Chick Days? I've never noticed before. Hubby tries to keep me away from the store during Chick Days. If so, what do they usually have? Or does variety vary by store? I'm in Indiana.
I did mean for the sides, sorry. I'm more concerned about winds going across. We have a 20 acre farm field to the side and with the trees, it's kind of a "bowl" where wind just swirls.
I built one of these and love it. I have a 2x4 across the back and on one side for roosts.
For the ladder to the coop, my 4 girls use it every single day.
eta: Mine does have some mods. I don't have an external nest box.
Well, now I'm not sure what I'm going to do with it... Hubby and I looked at it tonight and there's already a swarm of what looks like sweat bees around it. Don't want that in the run or the coop...
Since it poured last night, I do have mud in the pen. And wet grindings now. The grindings are a mix of dirt and tree stump, so I don't think that would be good in the next boxes...
No termites. This tree was stuck twice by lightning in the last three years, was dying and too close to the...
