Hello! My Safeguard dewormer arrived with a sticker over the instructions. I need to treat 3 my three hens (for 5 days as I understand). How do I treat them? Do I need to give it to them orally by hand or can I mix it in their water? Do I need to change the water and redose every day? Thank you!
I have been giving her calcium. She seems to be affected by the heat (although we have many places of shade, fresh cold water etc). Is it weird that one chicken would be affected by heat and not others (*note-she is our only white chicken, others are various colors-brown, black etc). She is one...
My 3 year old post menopausal hen is slightly lethargic , but still eating and drinking, yellow diarrhea x 3 days and she is shaking her head almost like bugs are bothering her (but I've inspected her and the other birds who are asymptomatic, as well as the coop and there no signs of mites etc...
Hello! 3+ mutt chicken (Americana and???) who is post henopausal (hasn't laid for about a month). The past couple of days she is acting.."wonky". She is eating and drinking, the other 3 girls wonder from coop to coop in protected runs, but she is lagging behind by about 5-10 minutes. She spends...
We have a brooder box that we usually keep inside for a while until it warms up, but this year we are getting chicks next week so we will be able to place it directly in the run ( with a brooder plate for warmth after keeping in the shed for a couple of days to keep a close eye on them, check...
I sent my husband to get wood chips for the run, and he came back with a truckful of alder chips. They seem kind of "blocky" (see pic below), but the business advertises them as non splintering and say they would be fine for chicken run ( and even safe for children play areas). Thoughts? How are...
Our chicken was egg bound, passed the egg yesterday (whew!), but seems sore today (not wanting to walk much, eating and drinking just fine). Is this normal after being egg bound? I've read that the egg can press on nerves, so it makes sense but wanted to ask you fine folks. :)
No,she keeps eating and pooping big soft brown poop. Another epsom bath and felt around her vent with lube (which kind of sucked my finger in, which was a new experience, but didn't see any egg crowning, just some poop. When I rotated my finger "around" /up and down it felt a little firm, but not...
She laid day before yesterday, no abnormal eggs that I've seen. She just pooped (really huge, soft, green/brown). She continues to eat, hoping she can keep her energy up. She doesn't look like she's particularly in distress, but not walking, tail looks like her vent is pulsating (on run camera).
She is a 1.5 year old Cuckoo Bluebar Blue-Egger, I've soaked her in warm bath with magnesium x 2 and given her calcium with Vitamin D. I have her isolated and she has a bowl of water/feed in front of her, which she seems to be consuming. I'll ask the husband to pick up some lube on the way home...
Just curious- how often do egg bound hens resolve on their own (or after some minimal TLC, extra food and water, Epsom bath, lubing vent)? Just want to get a feel for what I am getting into. TYIA!
She is, eyes bright , combs are nice and red. She ate some hard boiled egg and drank a little, but she had the tail down penguin walk so I just soaked her in epsom salts (but I don't feel an egg).
Update: all the other girls have left the coop , Josie (that's the hen I'm worried about) is staying on the perch, eyes open. Thinking I will offer her some more scrambled eggs and have already put electrolytes in all the waters. Any help out there? Would be greatly appreciated!!!
Our 2 year old Cuckoo Bluebar Blue-Egger has been fine, no changes to food, water or run materials. Yesterday noticed her laying on the ground more, when I checked closer she appeared "wobbly", using her wings to steady her balance to get up, then laying right back down. I checked her, no...
She perked up after the interventions, we rehomed her and she is thriving. I wonder if she was just exhausted being the only smaller, "different" girlin our small flock. She wasn't picked on to bad, but I think she was worn out running to her hiding places. Good luck to yours!!
