I built it with a 10" deep footer of concrete. I think that will do the trick. (See my article on my profile, for more info about how I built the coop). I have never had a problem with predators getting inside the coop. Hopefully it will stay that way. Thanks.
Sorry for the delay in posting my final coop pictures. I finally finished this article. You can see the pictures of the coop as it stands now.
I love this coop compared to my first one. It works great. The electric door that opens and closes on a timer is a great feature.
Hi,
I just purchased three new chicks yesterday. Currently they are in the garage staying warm and safe. I need to get the coop ready for them. The coop has been sitting empty for 5 years since my last bunch of chickens were slaughtered by a group of raccoons. (My fault for letting them free...
Wow!! That is a big coop and run. I have 5 hens and have 20 sq. feet inside the coop and 50 square feet in the outer run. So that's 4 sq ft per hen inside and 10 sq ft per hen outside. I thought I was overdoing it!! :-)
I look forward to seeing your progress.
My Barred Plymouth Rock was attacked by an owl. It left a big bloody gash in the back of her head, right behind the comb. When I found her she was in a kind of shock.
I cleaned out the wound, put on Neosporone (because I wasn't sure what else to do) to try and protect the wound from germs...
I am in the process of rebuilding my coop. I am posting pictures, plans and commentary as I go. I'm glad to share what I learn.

I agree. Maybe the addition of a covered run would do the trick. We dont get much snow in WA, but when we do the roof over the run gives them the protection they need.
