Oops. Forgot to say that she's 5 weeks. Thanks for the reassurance. Seems like I've seen some 5 week old Delaware cockerels on here and they did have more pronounced combs. I wonder if the quick maturing means they start laying early too?
Oh my gosh. This was such an undertaking. I'm so glad it's done and I'm pretty happy with the result, but mostly I'm glad it's done and the chickens are out of my bedroom!
Tips or suggestions for improvement? (But be gentle, please, I'm exhausted and was in way over my head!)
I'm finishing my coop tomorrow! Time for the chicks to move out of my bedroom (the only dog-free room in the house.)
One question I have before I move the girls in, does the ramp look good to you? I think the slope is probably fine, but I am worried that the opening isn't big enough. I've got...
We have been convinced all along that little Miss Delaware Rose was a pullet through and through, but I'm starting to wonder. We never suspected roo because she's the smallest of our flock. But they're all different breeds, so I guess that doesn't much matter. (Her flock-mates are Sophia the...
Okay, here's the 5 week update for Dorothy. Think she's a pullet for sure?
I'm feeling pretty good about Dorothy. Her sister, Rose, though, I'm a little less certain. But that's another post.
Thanks for the response. I've never built anything in my life, so this is totally new to me. I feel like I'm just figuring it out as I go and hoping for the best! Not very reassuring.
I've been working away on my little coop and I should have it done by next weekend. Good thing, too. These chicks are getting too big for my bedroom. This isn't the most recent pic -- I've got the hardware cloth around the bottom and all the doors on. Still have to do the triangle ends and...
I'm thinking it's still too early to determine Dorothy's gender, so I'm starting a thread that I'll update weekly until we know for sure. Any guesses?
2 weeks
3 weeks. Someone mentioned to watch out for red around the shoulders?
Looks a whole lot like my SF.
Someone on here said mine's a pullet. I guess there are some pretty obvious things to look for with SFs. There's an SF thread on here somewhere.
Thanks so much for the quick response. So glad she's a pullet. Wanna confirm another one for me?
Feed store says Easter Egger. It's early (2 1/2 weeks), and I know it's not as easy as the sex-linked, but I'm thinking pullet?
The local feed store said this is a Cinnamon Queen. Can someone confirm? I confess that I'm asking because I want to determine gender. Apparently red CQ's are pullets? This chick is sassy and squawks like crazy when handled. The other chicks we got are much more mellow.
My babies are two weeks old.
From the left they're Delaware, Cinnamon Queen, Easter Egger and Salmon Faverolle. Someone already determined the SF is a pullet, and I know it's early, but I'm curious about the others. I'm especially wondering about the cinnamon queen who seems to be the...
