I use an ointment called bag balm, you can find it at your feed store or at the pharmacy. The last can I bought was at cvs. It works very well and I don't think I would use tape on it I think that would cause more problems.
They look good, I would keep them on the starter for now, you don't want to mess up their digestion. As long as its warm they would love it, but you have to keep a close eye on them and make sure they dont get chilled.

This is what I do, after day six or seven candle the eggs and see if they are starting to develop. Again at about day 14 or 15 . Thsi way you can see excactly what is fertile and won't be wasting your time and the hens. Was the eggs left out in the cold weather before the hen started setting?
