shortgrass, I have one of those camper stoves as well. Works great for my canning, and the house doesn't get all hot. Still have to carry the jars back and forth, but the exercise won't kill me I guess!
It's more like a two burner turkey cooker I'd say, it's on a stand about 30' high, runs on 1 propane tank, it's really sturdy, doesn't wobble at all. there's a metal wind screen that you can take off for the larger pots
rancher hicks, we bought one of the 2 burner stoves from Bass Pro this spring. It works great both to process the chickens and also for canning (I was afraid that I'd ruin my glass top stove by canning on it) Yesterday was the first time I used both burners at the same time, one for salsa in...
I cold pack my green beans. They do not turn out mushy, you might try that next time. But then I don't like frozen green beans, they never taste done to me so it might just be a personal preference and you will end up freezing yours. Good luck.
I've tried to dry pluck a chicken before and it was not easy. I had only one to do and didn't want to set up my scalding pot. It was so hard to do that I just ended up skinning it instead. I use my water bath canner so didn't have to buy a new pot. If you have 4 or 5 to do, I'd recommend...
We processed some extra roosters this weekend and I canned them. Got 8 quarts of chicken and 4 quarts of broth, going to take the ideas I learned here and fill up the rest of the space in the canner with some red beans for chili. If I'm sittting in front of the canner for 90 minutes, it's...
We added 2 hives to our property this spring. Have had the bees for 2 weeks now. I saw the article about the guineas too. So far we have not had any problem with the bees and the chickens. The chickens wander around the section where the hives are but don't seem to pay any attention to the bees.
Sometimes if you don't get the required permit, they can make you tear the structure down and start over. I'd hate to have to do that. Is there anyway you could make it a little shorter so you wouldn't have to get a permit?
Hi All, for those of you who have Orphington's what size nest box do they need? We have some Orphingtons from Dick Horstman that we need to set up nest boxes for. Thanks.
I'm sorry that you have had this experience. I read a lot, but seldon answer anyone's questions because I've felt the same as you about some of the replies I've gotten from my comments. I still enjoy looking and reading though so will continue to do so. If you find another site that doesn't...
