Is duck egg alive?? Plz help!

Alternatively, he looks pretty developed. It may be that his body is taking up so much room in the egg that you can’t see veins anymore. I’d say keep it up and see how it goes!

    Duck air sacs

I had one internally pip on the morning of Day 23, go nearly 48 hours without an external pip (in hindsight, I probably should have put in a safety hole but he had an exceptionally larger air cell and was super active, so I let him do his thing) and then hatch on Day 25.

Help w/ Identifying Duck Egg Breed

Great question! We’re new to ducklings so we wanted to start off with a smaller more manageable flock. We also already have three Cayuga ducklings we bought from a neighbor!

Help - 10 degree difference between bator and thermometer?

Not quite as hot as what the thermometer was posting, but he hatched at Day 23 so I assume it was still a little toasty. However, he hatched with absolutely no issues and he's honestly my smartest, most energetic duckling, so counting my lucky stars! :) The other ended up infertile.

Help w/ Identifying Duck Egg Breed

Ahh yes!! Sorry for the delay! One ended up being infertile, but the taller egg on the right hatched me an adorable little Black Swedish! (Not a Runner, he's just standing up to look over the side. ;) )

Possible to buy pre-built duck coop and/or run?

Thanks, all, for the replies! Re: my mom not looking for a huge commitment, she was actually referring to the process of building a major coop / run. She loves the ducks and really wants to keep them, she's just very scarred from our initial chicken experience so many years ago that she's...

Possible to buy pre-built duck coop and/or run?

Hi all - Anyone know of any options to buy a pre-fabricated coop/house and run for a few ducks? I'm not super handy, but willing to do some light building. Not lazy - just looking for a low-maintenance solution to convince my mother to keep our ducks. For background, my family and I are...

    101 reasons we love ducks

292 - The way their dinosaur heads come crashing through their brooder slats like they're straight out of Jurassic Park. 293 - That one shrill, impatient "HEY!" whistle they make when you're not quick enough refilling their water. 294 - The way the younger ducklings try to imitate the older...

The ULTIMATE list of DUCK Treats and Supplements...

Ha! I have no idea. The default text just looks too large to me. :idunno Force of habit?

The ULTIMATE list of DUCK Treats and Supplements...

My ducklings are OBSESSED with mashed bananas. They're oddly not that crazy about peas (yet), but boy oh boy they can smell the mashed banana from across the room and they really attack it!! I'm trying to mix it with less sugary / carb-heavy treats as well to dilute the treat, but boy do they...

    When do ducklings start quacking?

My three 3-week Cayuga ducklings have just started making “off” noises in the last few days or so. At least one is starting to form a crackly, honking quack noise. The other two still sound like babies. My money is on one hen, two drakes! 😁

Is this duckling a Swedish? Cayuga-Mix?

I hatched this lil guy last night - three days premature, but he required no assistance and is a fireball of energy. The woman I purchased his egg from said he could either be Cayuga, Blue Swedish, Silver Swedish or Fawn-and-White. Definitely can rule out Runner, but could he be a Cayuga mix? Or...

    24 Hours Since Internal Pip...

Update: he's been making lots of external pips since this morning and looks like he's rotating in the shell. They seem pretty superficial / I haven't seen him break the membrane yet. Is that okay? It almost looks like he's trying to zip, but from a weird angle? Might he malpositioned? Should I...

    24 Hours Since Internal Pip...

Update - we have an external pip!!! :wee 48 hours after the internal pip - sheesh! Now the quick developer decides to take his time. Day 25! Guess we can expect him in the next day or so. :D Still no chirping, but I'm sure once he breaks free a bit more he'll be more chatty. I'll just keep...

    24 Hours Since Internal Pip...

No peeping but when I candled him, his beak was right up against the shell and poking at me trying to get through (no external yet, but he's trying!), so I sprayed him and put him back in. He's trying!! His air cell still looked okay, so I think he's still got some oxygen to go. Come on, little...

    24 Hours Since Internal Pip...

As anxious as I am, I really haven't heard him peep yet, so maybe he was pressing against the air cell but didn't full internally pip yet. (I think he did), but in any case... Going to give him some more time and if by tonight he hasn't externally pipped, I will give him an air hole.
