    Why is this bad???

Okay, call me crazy, but when we had 6 roosters (before the cull) and even now when we have only one roo, I used to take the roosters, and sit them on my lap. I would sit in the yard (when they were running free range), pick one up with his wings tucked against his body, plop him down on my lap...

    Possible broken foot/leg; Update: maybe it's Marek's

I can understand where you are coming from. I have one hen (we call her Limpy) with one leg that she very gingerly steps on. She has had this issue for about one month now. I have seperated her, applied warmth to the affected leg, felt for warm spots, etc. etc. In short, I have done everything I...

    Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Hens and Roos, We put ours in the Seal-a-Meal bags (the one's that go with the vacuum sealer thingees) then put that bag into gallon-size Ziploc freezer bags. So far, so good. No problems as of yet. Good luck!

    Stiff legged!

I was wondering if it is possible that she has some type of "pokey" thing in her foot? We have "sand burrs" in our yard and I know when I get one stuck in my bare foot or on my hand, it feels like I am being stuck with a needle! IT HURTS! So, is it possible that she has one of the "spikes" or...

    Stiff legged!

No, I checked her other leg and all seemed pretty much the same (except for the poo on the one!) They both were the same temp, warm but not hot.

    Stiff legged!

One of my hens (White Rock cross) has a funny gait! She started a "goose step" walk with her left leg only. She walks like she can't bend it. She hopped ALOT last week, but she manages to keep away from the roo, so I am not REALLY worried, but it is concerning. She has no problem with being...

Hey folks, newbie here between Boscobel and Blue River. Flock of 25 of White Rock(?), have 1/2 with combs and 1/2 without. Don't know if one set is a week behind the other in age or if I have a set of roos and a set of hens. Whatever the case, I luv em all.Was wondering if anyone else is having...

Am I the only one with a gnat problem?

Thanks for the input folks. I actually sat in my yard and called them to me and had the "dust" in an old tin and lifted their wings, got other areas by hand. Worked pretty well and so far gnat problem has died down (knock on wood). I use wood shavings for bedding at this point. It is cedar, and...

Am I the only one with a gnat problem?

I live close to the Wisconsin River, very sandy soil and have a HUGE gnat problem. (Actually Googled "how to get rid of gnats" in relation to chickens and that is how I found this site!) Anyway, tried a suggestion of pure vanilla extract spray, and my girls were NOT happy with that procedure...

    Yup, 'nother new member!

Hi, first time chicken owner/raiser. 25 white rock(?). So far so good. Haven't lost one yet, knock on wood. Had chickens as a kid, so lots of paraphenelia/behaviors/smells do not surprise me. Am amazed though at how I view them like kids. Actually call mine kids or girls!! My two sons (12 & 14)...
