    Disinfecting after Mareck's

Thanks for your reply. I was told these were vaccinated pullets. Apparently not, or it wasnt done right. All my others were definitely vaccinated. is there any way to test the soil for presence of Mareck's? As far as disinfecting, Cornell says bleach is good against all chicken viruses...

    Marecks?

HELP! Really want to prevent my healthy hens from getting this from wind blowing infected dirt and feathers through the wire fence. Right now I have covered the ground where the infected hens were with a tarp, held down by rocks. Can anyone advise me?

    Marecks?

I just lost two beautiful Ameraucanas, one blue, one black, to Mareck's. It was during their quarantine period so I had not put them in with the rest of my flock yet, (6 very healthy hens). I had the Ameraucanas in a pen next to the chicken yard fence, but outside the chicken yard, so they could...

How to manage a problematic broody hen

I have had three hens for about a year now, one RIR, one BPR and a buff PR. The RIR and the BPR are great layers, but the Buff PR is broody about every 6 weeks. We have an urban homestead and are only allowed hens and want the eggs. I have tried various methods of curing her of it including...

    Pullet behavior managment

Ok. Looks like I will be building a T-Post chicken wire enclosure sooner than I expected. The area I have is 15 x 18 ft. I would like to keep trying with this chicken and not give up on her if I can. My brother is planning on building me a coop, but it sounds like I may need one sooner than...

    Pullet behavior managment

Thanks all for your good suggestions. I will try them. If I do have to get rid of the aggressive chicken, where do I take her? There are no livestock auctions around here. One more question - what if I waited another week then painted the backsides of the three contented birds with the Pick No...

    Pullet behavior managment

Thank you!! Actually it has already been 2 weeks. 4 days ago I tried putting them back together again and the aggressive RI Red immediately pecked a large vascular tail feather coming in on the white plymouth rock, which then caused all the others to peck at it too, I guess out of curiosity or...

    Pullet behavior managment

The aggressive one is a 6 wk old RI Red. Nice when she is by herself, but pecks to bleeding all the others (who are 2 weeks younger) when they are all together. I now have them all in one 4ft square enclosure with a mesh divider down the middle. The other 3 pullets ( another RI Red, a barred...

    Contemplating getting started with Chickens!

Hello! My daughter and I are starting to research raising chickens. We are just getting started and wanted to know who is in the chicken raising community in El Cerrito CA? We are also wondering what people do when they go out of town? Are backyard chickens ok on their own for 1-2 weeks...
