VERY COOL COOP -- economical! I am assuming you are in a warm all year round location and that the predators are few?
I live in the city limits of a rural mountain community, we have plenty of wildlife, including bear just last night....our coop has to be "bear proof".
Thanks for telling you story. This sounds like what we are experiencing, dormant hen whose body went into egg laying bad. We've tried the calcium/bath--now we're just waiting.
We have been having some pretty warm days and I seem NOT to be getting as many eggs and my girls are eating less.
Does hot weather effect egg production?
What's been the experience out there?
Thanks --
HELP--I got a ROOSTER in my last purchase of chickens, he's a beauty!!! Amercauna, White w/black&yellow collar, tuffs, iridescent tail feathers; 3 months old. Not allowed in city limits, although neighbors so far are in favor of him, but I think I am the only one he's waking up-LOL - Needs a...
HELP...any other thoughts? It sounds like waiting till they are bigger is the solution...but my little girls are 7 weeks old and they are outgrowing the kennel in the coop; but I don't trust my BIG girls (two years old). One of them who has been sweet/docile has become aggressive; she is even...
Thank you for raising your question/concern. I have a 2 year old SLW who I have noticed that her eyes look like they are sunken too, the lids are not puffy like I see your hens are; makes my Pepper, look like an old lady--. I am going to look back and see if I have any pictures of her to see if...
Our coop is that size and we had 10 chicken until just recently, about 18 months into our chicken adventure. We culled out 3 a few weeks back and it was surprising how much more content the remaining girls have been. Maybe because we got rid of the bullies...maybe because they have more room...
We've had cold weather here too...several days "cooped up". I just put in the coop a couple apples cut in half and CORED to remove seeds, this gave them a treat and something to peck at rather than each other. You could put out anything that they can peck on. I think I've read that the can...
Just want some feedback on circumstances of today.
One of our chickens died last night. This chicken has been a faithful layer in the summer and fall; she has had a peculiar deficiency of feathers for an extended period of her life, but she was finally growing them back in; this happened in...
I have light for heat in our coop. It has been a very cold winter in NW CO. My egg production dropped even with light, is this normal? My hens were all molting beginning of winter (first molt) and are just now getting back their feathers. I have been suspecting the cold (and molting) may be part...
I think they do, I am feeding layer crumbles, BOSS fairly regular, green scraps often. This hen is in "lock-down" again. I have determined from this separation that she is my main egg eater. I've been able to collect more eggs in the last few days. YAY!! I put her in because I saw her peck...
How isolated do you recommend? I have my BO in a dog crate in the run and will put her in the coop inside the dog crate tonight.
Do they need to be more isolated?
Thanks for any ideas!
E.
Hi I don't know if you are still on or will even get this, but I'm curious how things went with you separating experience as this was posted a long time ago. I finally put my "top of the pecking order" hen in jail today. She has been eating eggs and I have other hens that are feather pecked as...
Thank you Chicken Chic,
I have thought about curtains because I have two boxes that are not getting used, one box does and then the other favorite spot...not in a box, but between the box and the stand that holds the water. Private I guess. Anything to at least keep the eggs from getting...
I need some separating feed back or suggestions.
I have an egg eater, I believe that she is at the top of the pecking order. I would like to separate her for awhile and see if the other hens leave the eggs alone.
I have a dog kennel that I can put her in, inside the coop at night and out...
