    Poopy nest boxes

My perches are higher than my nest boxes and mine prefer the nest boxes or the floor. I use sawdust in the nest boxes. We go out every morning to open the pop door and clean the nest boxes out with a plastic fork and fling the poop onto the coop floor. I will stir up the pine...

    Lights without electricity

Not exactly help in your situation but, Hubby ran 150 feet of extension cord from our house outside outlet to the coop and drilled a hole big enough to get the plug of a shop light through. He mounted the shop light in the coop pointing at the food and water. It was funny to see them last...

They're not going to stand in the snow til their legs freeze off??

Mine must be prissy hens then - I have to sweep out the run before they will set foot outside the coop! They will not come out if there is snow on the ramp or in the run.

Why are they squaking the egg laying song???

The way my hens carry on when laying an egg you would think they were barbwire wrapped! One is really quite the drama queen of the layers.

    Advice on selling eggs

I wipe the blemishes off our eggs with a dampened paper towel. If the egg is clean then it jsut gets wiped off with our hand to remove any sawdust and placed in the egg cartons. We gather our eggs 3x a day or so. Now that the run is a mud pit we are getting dirty eggs, but we just wipe with a...

Do I need to worry about frozen eggs? Frozen chickens???

We were worried about our hens as well. Our coop is 8x8x8 high...for 10 birds under a year old. It has been down right feezing here (10-14 degrees). Hubby just installed a lamp in the coop and put a 150 watt reveal bulb in there and he says they were all running around happy as could be. I...

    Sleeping in the layer/nesting box!

Mine love to sleep in the nest boxes as well. Only 3 will roost on the roosts. When it is really cold or blustry out they will all huddle up in the boxes. We deal with it. We go out each moring to open the pop door and clean out the nights poop from the boxes. We keep the nest boxes with...

Why is my hen doing this?

I have 1 roo and 9 hens. One of my hens is going around and pecking at all the others butts. I have noticed that most of the other chickens all have plucked butts under their vents. I assume that the culprit is this one hen. I give them scrambled eggs and other proteins and they have more...

OMG Anyone ever got a 3x yolker?*****Pic of inside on PG. 4******

I have been getting a lot of doubles lately. I have 2 black links that lay HUGE eggs, 4-5 inches long and just huge. They barely fit in the egg carton. We keep these seperate from the rest of the eggs and use these extra jumbos for baking.

Do black sex links lay every day?

I have 2 of my 9 layers are black. They lay often can't say every day but they lay BIG I have never seen this big of a chicken egg before. No wonder she squacks and screams when she is in the next box! Her eggs are 4-5 inches long and just huge...they barely fit in the egg carton. They are...

I had to put my ducks down :(

Yes we got them to be meat birds and they turned out so commical and funny that they kinda turned into these goofy pets that would not come near you. They would never go in their box to get warm or out of the elements (heat or rain) so we knew they would freeze in the winter. We knew we would...
