I know you got the Rooster from Ken. I hatched 4 chicks and he mailed me two juviniles. I love the white rocks but realized I could not try for so many breeds so decided to go with the BR.
I too would love to enter a show someday. Not this year though. Im trying to get chicks on ground. This...
Congratulations Bee! Your pullets look nice and your Rooster (I think hes of age) is really stunning. I got my first BR cick Saturday. New Breeders we are!! So exciting. A slow sport though but well worth it!!!
I got my first live BR chick this morning. It is Freds Hen x XW. It is vigorous and hatched in 8hrs from pip. Second one has internally pipped and chirps but no external pip yet. Xing my fingers. So far Ive only gotten this one chick from 12 eggs confirmed fertile.
My Freds Hens Cockerel has a nice straight back. He looks curvy because hes raising his head and neck. Can I midly tranqulize these birds to get a decent shot--LOL. Just kidding. My 2nd to hatch BR died in shell at day 18. I have been hatching chicks for 5 yrs. i have Brinseas and dont think its...
Quick update on my quad. First egg died at lockdown--I have 2 more due Friday and 6 next week. I find of all my pullets the BR are the poorest layers--at most 3 per week. And, my one cockerel who is with three pullets does not favor the BR. But, all the eggs have been fertile. Oh me, oh...
They are lovely! I love your rooster too. I'm doing the Barred rocks--they are a tough breed. First purebred egg of the season died at about 19 days incubation--the two hens I have are poor layers. I love the birds but now know why not many folks breed them--right Fred!?
Got it that's exactly what I ve been doing. Sory I missread part of your post. All my chicks will have a known father and mother. I will take pics of what develops later. Still working on my chicken photography. They are so difficult to photograph!! Thanks again.
