here is a better shot of the cockerl I posted. The other day . Thsi sixth degree weather has him showing himself foday. He's gonna b around here for a long time . Riis is the best cockerel I have raised this far in four year

He's stunning!!! Love his tail! That's one great looking K...can't wait to see him as he gets more mature. Will you post a pic of him later on so we can see him at his top growth? Would love to see that.

Fred, here's a side view of one of those pullets I showed you earlier. They are both nearly identical in shape and size, so this will give you an idea. They aren't perfect, I know...don't have the smoothness of lines one likes to see...especially across the back, but I have confidence they will fill out better after they start laying and get a little more width across that pelvis and their offspring will be even better when bred back to her sire, Weaver's male. She's also got a mighty full crop in this shot, so that bulge you see there isn't the true line of her chest...she's got a broad, smoothly rounded line there normally.

This girl is 5 mo. old and soon to hit the 6 mo. mark...and she's checking out the nest boxes more and more each day. That's right where I like their development...I'm wanting that to be one of the traits in this line~ a nice, average onset of lay.

They are lovely! I love your rooster too. I'm doing the Barred rocks--they are a tough breed. First purebred egg of the season died at about 19 days incubation--the two hens I have are poor layers. I love the birds but now know why not many folks breed them--right Fred!?

Quick update on my quad. First egg died at lockdown--I have 2 more due Friday and 6 next week. I find of all my pullets the BR are the poorest layers--at most 3 per week. And, my one cockerel who is with three pullets does not favor the BR. But, all the eggs have been fertile. Oh me, oh my--but I am determined to stick this out. I know now why not many folks have these lovely birds, right Fred?!

The 1st three pics are of my cockerel, Freds Hens--his eye looks spooky in the two pics but its perfectly normal. The 3rd pic down is him--normal eyes! The last 2 pics are of my xw cockerel. I think they are both nice.

Looks very nice. Glad to see his eyes are fine lol I saw the first picture and was like what the heck?!?!

My Freds Hens Cockerel has a nice straight back. He looks curvy because hes raising his head and neck. Can I midly tranqulize these birds to get a decent shot--LOL. Just kidding. My 2nd to hatch BR died in shell at day 18. I have been hatching chicks for 5 yrs. i have Brinseas and dont think its me as all the other eggs hatch at nearly 100%. What causes late stage death??

It has been a very wet & messy week but my Silver Penciled Plymouth Rocks caught a break in the rain this evening.

thought I would share this picture of thefuture rock breeders. Passing on the hobby and understanding of breeding to the next generation is often forgotten.
