I am so hoping my wife doesn't see this discussion. This was the first question she asked when I started looking for chickens to raise. I think I've done a great job changing the topic for several months now. I coach college basketball and this is the best stress relief. Your outside messing...
Hi Jesse,
Just wondering if you have any eggs or chicks available. I would be interested in whatever you have available. I know things were really hectic there for a minute, hopefully things have slowed a little. Thanks!
They do stay very busy, I'll give 'em that. I just wish they'd catch the stinking skeeters along with all the other bugs their eating. It would really make life in the backyard wonderful and I'd sure appreciate them then.
This may sound really stupid, but I'm a new egg, sooo... I was given a few wild game hens a couple of weeks ago. I mean really wild. I can't get withing 15 feet of them and they won't get close to roosting in the little chicken coop at night. They roost about 10 feet up one of our trees in...
zz, I feel your pain with dealing with traders selling you birds that aren't what they're supposed to be. Even after doing your research you can get taken. Sure will be glad when I'm more comfortable recognizing breeds. Glad you finally got what wanted.
I just got into this chicken business recently myself with the intention of raising rir's. But once I saw those buff orpingtons I did an about face and glad I did. Nothing against rir, but these babies are so gorgeous and friendly.
There are so many options out there that if you do your research, you'll find just about exactly what you want. Just keep asking the experienced BYC'ers questions and they will keep you out of trouble and help you not waste your money.
This a why I love this website! You guys are sooooo encouraging. Scootersmom, that it great looking stuff you've made. My grandmother made her grandkids slippers and caps and I still have mine. My youngest daughter saw those things and thought they were so cool that she started learning to...
This entire discussion is the biggest reason I started growing my own garden and raising chickens. Next comes the milk goat and bees (if I can keep them alive through all the ccd mess). It's very hard to trust what's in the stores and what information to believe. You really have to do a lot...
Glad your here! You'll find this to be the most helpful group around. My little girl thinks I know all there is about chickens (still very much an idiot!), but what I've learned in a short period of time has come from the guidance of BYC member. Have fun and don't be afraid to ask questions!
Yea, bees really do not like tractors at all! A few years ago I was mowing the in-laws pasture and got about 25 yards away from his bee hives. I got chased about a hundred hards (felt like miles at the time!) to the house and stung 7 or 8 times. Had to take some benadryl, but it was alright...
Isn't it great when the family finally starts to take an interest in what you are doing outside and quits sitting around the tv and video games all day! My youngest daughter has adopted my new ameracauna pullet and can't wait for her first easter egg. My college age daughter hasn't even...
I live on a small junior college campus in Oklahoma. I hate that you are having such problems. Keep hanging in there! I haven't caught any flack, but I'm fortunate enough teach and coach at a school with a huge ag base. Most of the maintenance crew just kinda laugh that a coach would have...
I sure hope the "new egg" found what she was looking for. Watching those little babies grow really is fun and takes some work, but some of us had to start with someone elses babies. These birds become very addictive quickly.
